Fans gotta support

Jan 3, 2020, 4:23 AM

Looking back on the many seasons we have missed the NCAAs this past decade, I will say that we have been on the Bubble Multiple times... I really feel like over this decade fan support is terrible during the end of football season and we lose to teams like Yale in front of 2,500 fans... You have to win your home games... 2014 we lost to winthrop in front of 3000 at most fans... The year after the NIT semifinals year... Clemson was 2-0 and the fans had no excuse not to show up... A sold out crowd turns games like that around, the student body has done A LOT better this year showing up, VT they turned students away, but go look up Brownells recruiting rankings for next year and come back to me. We have a team that returned ZERO starters, we won the top player in our state and another ESPN top 100 recruit, and y'all refuse to see the bigger picture. You can sit in the lower bowl most games for 7 dollars, how can you not afford that??? We are terrible this year, but our fan support for this program doesn't reflect a top 50 BB program. UNC doesn't have 20% capacity games. Franky Brownell is a good man and WANTS to be at Clemson University... We will be a springboard for anyone else. He clearly has a bigger picture in mind, we have not had a class this great in years! The man develops his players... We have 2 players drafted in the NBA this past decade, both still are on the radar and making money in the NBA. Brownell has his faults, but if you get an up and coming coach, you think he will stay here when the good times start? Heck OP after 3 straight NCAAs jumped to another job... The same people who complain about the expense of taking their family of 4 to a basketball game will be all over tigernet tickets paying $1000+ a piece for national championship tickets...

Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of our football program.... But y'all drop support of Brownell THE SECOND things go south. He doesn't quit and keeps his teams fighting... We are 6-7.... But who didn't know this was coming before the season? 5 new starters... We were never sniffing the NCAAs. Now next year, we are bringing in 2 four star guys and the guys on our team now will have experience. I sincerely believe if Brownell starts running into success, he will stay at Clemson cause he loves it here... 2010-2020. We have seen the sweet 16, have 3 NCAA tournament wins, a NIT semifinals, NIT x2, acc top 4 the sweet sixteen year. With what our fans put into our program, do we deserve better then that? Competitive is .500 or above... We are that, we had one season this decade we won less then we lost. 1-2 of those NITs could have turned into NCAA berths had these small schools didn't come into little John and it felt like a neutral site game... You think these 18-21 year old kids get excited to play winthrop at home after classes all day infront of 2000 fans? Showing up 2-3 times a year don't cut it.

In a nutshell, don't complain about our program when you attend the UNC/ Duke game and one other game once and year and complain about losses in games you were probably discussing football while they were going on.

Brownell has not preformed...And the attendance is...

Jan 3, 2020, 4:27 AM

a reflection of that. Fans don't show up to watch us lose to Yale. He's lost the support of our fanbase. 10 years is long enough.

Been there for 40 years. This is as bad as I've ever seen a Clemson basketball team. Fans showing up won't teach these kids to shoot, rebound or make free throws. Put a halfway decent team on the court, beat who you should beat, upset a few folks, and you'll generate a following. Frankly right now we stink. I have been a Brownlee guy until the last couple of seasons. I'm done. He's has had 10 years, and we don't have much to show for it. I don't even follow them anymore.

Agree - watching sports is supposed to be painful

Jan 3, 2020, 9:12 AM

and watching our current basketball team is downright painful - and I have been watching Clemson basketball for almost 40 years as well. Cheering won't help. A new coach will. I feel bad for the kids that we don't care enough to watch but at least they're getting a free college education, which is a lot more than most people.

I do what I can...but I don’t get paid $2.5 Million to support the basketball team.***

Clemson fans support teams that play hard, smart and are well coached. Brownell has had his chance(too many)-thanks to Dan Radokovich and it is way past time to make a change(regardless of the buyout). Clemson has spent too much on facilities to allow such poor results to continue. Give it up-it's not going to get better!

In his 10th season at Clemson Brownell has assembled one of

Jan 3, 2020, 6:27 AM

The worst teams in ACC history. His roster is a revolving door, players transfer in then leave after one year, who knows how many underclassmen off this team will return next year. Brownell inspires no enthusiasm or passion for the program, nor has he communicated a vision for the program to the fans. After 10 seasons he has essentially drained all the life out of the program, and I see no signs that he even cares. I do not think he has the ability or the personality required to be successful at Clemson.

Son, there have been a whole helluva lot of "seconds" in

Jan 3, 2020, 9:11 AM

these 10 long years. It took me 8 of those years total to finally get off the Brown-L bandwagon. I don't think that qualifies as a knee jerk reaction. He just does not have the fire and leadership ability it takes to make a contender of our basketball program. And ######, Clemson deserves to be good in basketball. To Heyall with all those who say it is not possible. We have a football coach who says NUTS to that kind of thinking. We need a basketball coach that says the same.

What bubble? We’ve never been in the last 4 out for the Tournament. If you have to extend to second 4 out ... you’re not on the bubble.

Jan 3, 2020, 9:40 AM

I'm sorry, but whether a fan likes Brownell or not, or supports Clemson basketball or not, your post is just plain factually wrong. You have no idea what you are talking about. I go to games when I can, I like Brad and how he has represented Clemson with class, but he has not been good at developing players, not doing much to develop team chemistry. Hopefully, that will change, but I think he has been here long enough to indicate that it won't.

Who is at fault for the fact that

Jan 3, 2020, 9:48 AM

"We have a team that returned ZERO starters"????

Attrition in college basketball is a LARGE part of the game. BB has either not managed to figure that out, or failed miserable at dealing with it..

GO TIGERS!!

Year 10 vs year 3.

Jan 3, 2020, 9:59 AM

I find it strange that people write something about BB plan and how the recruiting is better.
My response.
Why would it take him 10 years to have a plan?
Why would recruiting get better after 10 years?
Why is this years team poor?
Is all of this not on BB?
If your comments were after year 3 - I would be on board. Year 10 and still searching for answers - still not developing talent - still losing to poor teams - still not competitive in games (forget about the season).

Putting people in the seats, having fun, being competitive, improving steadily (2 steps forward - 1 back is ok with me), seeing an exciting brand of ball. That is what gets people into the seats.

Watching the team play is tough. I still do, but it is hard. (On tv as I live in st Pete).

To me decisions are about momentum and improvement.

Are we better than we were 10 years ago?
Are we fun to watch?
Do we win- even boring like uva?
Do you have fact filled expectations of improvement?

I appreciate your comments year 3 - in year 10 - not so much.

IMO anyway

I've been hearing these same ridiculous thoughts for........

Jan 3, 2020, 10:54 AM

decades now. You have this idea for some reason that the fans do/will create a winning team and that's BS. I agree that during a few bad years here and there that the fans should hang in there but in our case we only have good teams once in a blue moon. I, for one, am not going to support a losing program likes ours is until I see some definite signs of real and lasting improvement. Your trying to lay a guilt trip on me isn't going to work.

We need to get a coach/coaching staff that knows how to recruit and how to coach. But for some reason, we continue to stick with the likes of BB and expect for some stupid reason that things are going to get any better. That makes no sense.
