Clemson basketball is to the ACC as UsC football is to _____?

SAT answer = the SEC.
No consistent history of success Not seen as a threat or top level team Has occasional seasons of success, then drops off again Does not recruit at high level bc of no consistency of winning Many "fans" have distorted, exaggerated perception of the strength their team and program
But UsCjr football fans are more supportive than Clemson basketball "fans".

Except for two key differences you left out:

1. SC spends a ton on football. Clemson doesn’t spend much at all on men’s basketball. 2. SC football has rabid fan support. Clemson basketball doesn’t.

The point that both are near the bottom of their conferences from a historical achievement perspective is lost on many Clemson fans. Both fan bases ask the same why not us questions. Both fan based talk about hiring the hotshot coaches thinking they can attract the best based on money and conference affiliation but always settle for less.

Agreed, except we have never hired a high profile coach

like they have. We’ve never had a Lou Holtz or Steve Spurrier equivalent in basketball.
They want to be good in football much more than we want to be good at basketball.

Ok but both of their high profile coaches were well past their prime. Both saw some success but ended up an embarrassment to the university. Coots do care more as our fans would rather gripe than actually show up and support the team

The old Metro Conference? Actually, if I remember Coot

prehistory correctly, they went independent in the foosball, while joining the Metro in other sports. Guess they thought they would become a big time independent like Notre Dame, Miami or BYU at the time.
WRONG AGAIN!
