CHURCH and STATE

Apr 16, 2014, 10:48 AM

STATE: The Bible indicates that governments are ordained by God to provide law and order (Romans 13:1-5). Government leaders are to act for the benefit of the citizens (1 Peter 2:13-14). Christians are to honor and pray for government officials (1 Timothy 2:1-3; 1 Peter 2:17), pay taxes (Matthew 22:17-22; Romans 13:6-7) and obey the government except when obedience would be clearly contrary to God’s will (Acts 4:19-20; 5:29.)

CHURCH: Designed by God to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8), to teach doctrine and develop believers (Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 4:11-13) and to minister in Christ’s name (Matthew 25:31-46). The church is to rely on the sword of the Spirit and not the sword of the government in carrying out its mission.

Ideally, the relation of church and state is mutually beneficial. For example, the state is to provide order and safety; these are useful to the church in carrying out its mission (Acts 13-16). And the church contributes to a positive social order by helping to develop law-abiding, hard-working, honest citizens (Ephesians 4:24-32; 1 Peter 2:11-17).

THAT IS ALL DABO IS DOING.... helping to mold young men into responsible adults. ANYONE who has a problem with that... well, I have no desire to hear their point of view on anything.

Well stated

As FFRF proceeds I pray that they will be guided by the truth

I'm not sure anyone really cares what FFRF says

They've been complaining about the religiosity of Clemson coaches for years, and it hasn't made a lick of difference. Not sure why this suddenly became news to tigernet folks or why everybody now feels the need to discuss it. Just about the worst thing that can happen is that their letter gets more attention than it deserves and turns into some sort of ESPN political correct- fest.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Perhaps you will reconsider your position for a friend.

The term 'Separation of Church and State,' came from a letter written to a Baptist Church group by Thomas Jefferson while trying to assure them that this government would not interfere.

This is a constitutional issue in only two cases. Our forefathers saw what happens when a state has it's own church. The constitution had, in it's design, eliminated that problem.

The second issue is whether or not the Government of the United State would interfere with the practice of religion.

The constitution will never separate the church and state. Those concepts are diametrically opposed. The church consist of the body of believers and the constitution is of the people, for the people and by the people, those two sets intersect.

How can two sets contain the same factors and be mutually exclusive?

74, you have rithmatic skills so tell us how this works.
