Back in the dark ages (1965 +/-) our family would go over for Sunday lunch after church.
I still remember the metal Tiger as part of a fountain display.

What a glorious facility. My first visit to campus many years ago was in late fall; in a room overlooking the heart of campus. As the sun settled behind Death Valley, I knew I was in a special place.

I remember as a young lad in the 60's often going with my grandparents to games and we would either go to the Clemson House or Dan's for lunch before the games.

That was great!!! I was at Clemson from 80-85 and I can only recall going in the Clemson House 3 or 4 times (mostly to eat some food away from Harcomb). I also remember in the lobby they had this big model of Death Valley horse-shoed in. It had both upper decks, and they were horse-shoed as well. I always hoped that would actually happen one day.
I watched the Clemson House come down on a live stream, and it just felt wrong.

Got to live there my freshman year in the late 80s. Still remember the sausage gravy and biscuits on Sunday mornings!! Staff was excellent!

My wife’s mother would only allow her daughter, now my wife of 53 years, to stay at the Clemson House on dance weekends because they had guards on the elevators and stairs. No boys were allowed upstairs.

Wonderful video of a marvelous building. A family Friday night trip to the Tiger Tavern for a cheeseburger and cherry coke was the highlight of my week as a child growing up in Seneca! Then back on Sunday for the buffet! So glad to have those memories….

I hated to see it go. In its early days, US highway 123 was the 2 lane main artery between Greenville and Atlanta, and highway 93 was 123. US 123 basically followed Southern Railway train tracks all way to Atlanta. Where 123 is now was mostly woods and farm land, and there was no I-85 at that time. We had our high school Jr.-Sr. proms there. Also I belonged to a numismatics club that met there often.
My blood has always been type 'T', even before I had known it. I inherited it from my Grandfather and my dad . In 1953, at the age of 8, I accompanied my dad to watch Coach Howard's Tigers practice, before the season began. I also attended the games with him. In those days, there was the first team-second team set up, not the current offense-defense team set up. Most of the players played offense and defense, and the second team would be sent in to allow them relief. We used the T or split T backfield formation. Some players I remember well, like qb Don King, hb's Buck George, Joe Pagliei, Jim Coleman et al. Some linemen like McCanless, Desimone, Cordeleone, et al. Doug Cline and Bill Mathis were great backs, both on offense and defense. I was saddened this week to learn of the death of Harvey White, who was a great qb, and was often hurt, but played on. Joel Wells was outstanding at hb. Although we could not equate with teams like Oklahoma and Ga. Tech in those days, we did have some decent teams, and were able to upset some greater teams, but never Dodd's Ga. Tech. Dad, a group of friends, and I would go to Atlanta every year, but could never quite bring back a victory. We always played them there, because they could draw 50,000+, while a great attendance in our home stadium was 32,000.
Still, those were the 'good ole days', and today, my blood is as orange as ever. I miss that huge, aesthetic land mark on the hill.

I lived there during my freshman year and again as a Senior. In 1993-94, I was on the 5th or 6th floor with an incredible western view of Bowman Field. Saw Bob Hope stay there. A friend of mine snuck up to the penthouse and go an autograph or picture. Another friend worked at Hotel front desk. Great memories. Awesome views. Great food. Great haircuts.

During my first trip to Clemson in 1972, my parents and I stayed at the Clemson House. It seemed like an old hotel with a lots of history then. I don't recall spending much time there during my 4 years on campus. Sad to see it go. Glad someone documented some of its history.

What a fantastically done video! I learned a lot that I never knew about the Clemson House. I was a student at Clemson from 1979-84. I didn't go to the Clemson House very often unfortunately. I remember going there a few times to eat, which was a special treat.
I also remember the summer before I started school, I went to campus for an orientation of sorts. I was planning on majoring in Engineering, but had not decided which type I was most interested in. This visit was something the school had set up for someone just like me. We were there for 4days and 3 nights. There were probably about 30-35 guys and girls and we would go to presentations put on by each Engineering discipline, wanting to draw us to their field. The different disciplines represented were chemical, electrical, civil, mechanical, ceramic, among others. The 2 that interested me the most were civil and ceramic engineering.
The reason for this long story in this thread, is that we stayed at the Clemson House. I had a roommate for the long weekend, and we were assigned a 2 room suite. It was humongous!! If I remember correctly, one of the rooms had 2 queen sized beds and the other had 2 single beds, and overlooked Bowman Field. It had a very large bathroom for the suite. I also remember myself and another guy I met there took a couple girls, who were in our group, to see "Alien" at the Astro theater.
You folks that actually lived there as students......how did you get to do that? I know students lived at the "Y" and Clemson House, and always wondered how that worked. Was there a lottery system?

of Clemson House. Loved to visit for breakfast and a hair cut. Only dining experience where you could get eggs over easy. Had my wedding rehearsal dinner there back in 1990. Thank you Mr. Durham for such a great video!
