WHY should we get EXCITED about 3-star recruits? Here’s WHY

Nov 25, 2021, 10:35 PM

Because they frequently become great players.

Look at the list in the link.

Aaron Rogers, Luke Kuechly, and yes, our own Vic Beasley ... dozens more. NFL pro bowlers all.

It means they're probably a 4 star....

3 star and 5 star athletes seem to be the sweet spot

Nov 25, 2021, 11:00 PM

Seems like a 4 star guy feels like the middle child that’ll transfer in a heartbeat when they can’t win a starting job.

He is our only 3 star player, aside from the kicker, in this class.

Here is an amazing list of 3 star players.

I think people should watch film and see if they should be excited or not. There is no reason to be excited just randomly over a 3 star recruit. I watched his film. He needs to work in his tackling. He is all arm tackling. He looks like he has a frame to get way bigger and will turn into a nice LB though who will be very versatile. BV will develop him. I think he will end up solid. It will be fun to watch his progress.

Exactly right...

There are the "coaches do no wrong" and "star only" types arguing here. Best thing is to watch the highlights Due seems quick but not a headhunter. I trust Venables so there's that but to the untrained eye his highlights arent impressive. No offers from great programs either.

Nov 26, 2021, 6:32 AM

Many of us (including me) don't give a hoot about whether our team's players become NFL players.

We all care about HOW WELL THEY PLAY IN COLLEGE.

To that end, of course there are more 3* players than 4*s and 5*s which do not end up playing in the NFL.

The first factor is raw numbers: There are many more 3* players than 4* and 5*s, so of course many more 3* players don't make it in the NFL.

The next factor is size & speed: The HS 4*s and 5*s already possess some size and/or outstanding speed. Superb college players like Spencer Shuey and Ben Boulware were always long-shots to eventually make a NFL roster. Big deal ... we care about their COLLEGE performance.

(*) If your question was to be of real relevance, you would have asked about CLEMSON's 3* players and their success at (1) college and then (2) NFL. Clemson (and for that matter, other teams from top programs like Alabama, Georgia, FSU, OH State, Penn State) appear to have a higher rate of success for their 3* than do other 'typical' programs.

Why is this? These 'top programs' don't have to dig too deep into the 3* and 2* ranks to fill out their signing classes. The 'top programs' selectively sign 3*s which they have seen on film (or in person) that have higher potential to develop into stars than the typical 3*. That's why the Clemson fans should #### with their b_ _ching about it when we get commitments from 3* players.

I'm just happy that we are into the final 2 games of DJ starting for us.

We are still 8-3 with a QB ranked 113 out of 123 in the nation. Our defense is amazing. Cade Klubnik can't get here soon enough.
