Jack Leggett

Jan 14, 2022, 10:52 AM

Does anyone find it extremely odd that Jack Leggett still hangs around Doug Kingsmore? Like you were to narcissistic to resign or retire and so DRad had to fire you. Now years later you still come to all the games and hang around the program? Sitting near the dugout. Like what are you doing? Let it go and stay away. Theres a reason nobody jumped to hire you. Theres a reason Auburn took Butch Thompson over you when they were looking for a new coach back then. You were let go for a reason Leggett because you were washed up and didn't want to make changes. Now stay away. Quit walking in Monte Lee's shadows.

Because it is classless. If he had any class he would not hang around and be a distraction to Monte and the team.

He's probably hanging around scouting since he coaches for team USA.

Are you auditioning to baseball's Judge Keller?

If so, you must be told that he spent some time contributing positively to the boreds prior to jumping off of a cliff with Brad.

That is very funny! Like people on here think "Judge" is the all knowing!! He is just another person with an opinion, kinda like SEC Homer Paul Finedumb! We don't need a Base "Judge" or a football "Judge" for that matter. It amazes me to see people on TigerNet boards who put down others Posts and for some unknown reason believe that they know more than anyone else on TigerNet.

Jan 14, 2022, 12:48 PM [ in reply to Re: Jack Leggett ]

I was referencing Judge Keller's efforts to blindly defend Brownell when asking if this poster intends to try to fill that place for Monte Lee.

I typically think Judge Keller has some pretty good posts when he is not posting directly or indirectly about Brownell and the basketball program, but I would never call him all-knowing.

Also there are people all over TNET who are either more or less informed on certain topics than the person they are having a discussion with.

That is the basis for sharing information is that everyone's knowledge is not equal.

In regards to Clemson's baseball program, I feel pretty confident that I know more about the game of baseball in general and also Clemson's program more specifically than the OP.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don’t feel that I blindly support Brownell.

Jan 14, 2022, 1:06 PM

I think he is a good basketball coach, and I provide evidence for thinking that. I acknowledge areas that need improvement, and I have evidence for that. And I state program enhancements I feel that we need, and I provide evidence for that.

Others don’t care for him, but their reasons are typically based on “uhh he’s boring” or “he has been here 12 years,” with little to no evidence or context.

People are welcome to disagree with me, but at least I’m consistent in providing a basis for my opinions.

I have always respected your efforts to discuss basketball from a different view than the masses on TNET.

I've mentioned before in threads that you soured with me to some extent when you drifted toward being snarky and sarcastic (common traits on TNET but not traditionally from you) in what seemed like an attempt to bring Dabo and football down in a way to prove some of your previous points and lift up basketball.

I respected this tactic much less than your valiant defense of Clemson basketball, which as you said is typically supported with a good deal of knowledge and information about the program.

It seems that with basketball season arriving you have trended back toward your previous posting style which I feel is a good thing. Hopefully this is something you will stick with and not give the impression in the future that you are being opportunistic about kicking other sports when they are down.

I am not invested in Clemson basketball enough to get overly upset or excited at the job Brownell is doing, and I do appreciate what you bring to the table since I don't pay as much attention to the program as I do with football or baseball and I occasionally learn something from your posts.

Jack was great and I hope and want monte to be great but times ticking. Bottom line monte needs to change some stuff and said he has. We will see. I’d expect neff to clean house if not and not just baseball. Who cares if jack hangs around that’s cool and his personal decision. I wish some former guys would come back and we would do like bobbleheads like Khalil and baker and colvin etc.

It's a free country, I'm sure if wants to watch Monte Lee doesn't care, he might even ask questions. How do you know he's not welcome? If I coached the Football team, I would ask Danny Ford many questions about Special Teams, his style my be outdated but special teams responsibilities are the same as they were 40 years ago. However, I"m not an expert, someone should ask "Judge"....

I'm hoping Monte works out better, but the last few years of Leggett (his worst) were no worse than the first few years of Monte. It is by no means clear that the move that DRad made (especially how he did it) was the correct move. No matter how many keyboard warriors wanted it at the time.

Great post.

Monte is very much on the hot seat as he should be. He was not hired to just make regionals as Jack was already doing that. He hasn’t advanced this program in any way whatsoever, and this season could be another long season. Hopefully some of these freshman can make an impact and turn the program around.

There's a lot of things that should make us upset but I don't think this is one of them. Leggett is a great person that spent quite some time talking to me and my son at an impromptu meeting. He's one of us and should be treated that way, regardless of what happened when he left.

That being said, Leggett actually has a better post season winning % in regional, super regional and CWS than Monte. We now win the vast majority of our midweek games but that is the only positive of Monte Lee that I have seen so far.

“ That being said, Leggett actually has a better post season winning % in regional, super regional and CWS than Monte.”

Given that Monte has never advanced out of a regional at Clemson and Jack made several CWS, I think everyone intuitively knows this fact already.

2.0. He forgets that Coach Howard did in fact retire instead of having to be fired and nearly physically dragged out of the office, as it seemed Leggett was.

Coach Howard used to joke that he retired "for Health Reasons. The Alumni had gotten SICK of me."

Um, the new guy (who we’re letting lumber into season 7 after the worst Clemson baseball season in modern history) had his best seasons with Leggett’s last class. A class that lost it’s second best recruit when Jack was fired. You’re entitled to your opinion but you should be consistent. If you think Jack had “lost it” for not making it to Omaha in 5 years (for the first time in his career) your hair should be on fire about the current state of the program.

Plus, does it really matter?? Lot's of coaches hang out where they last coached. Stallings hung around Bama. Bobby Bowden never really left, I doubt Mike the Rat ever leaves? Danny Ford has been very welcome around Clemson and why wouldn't he?

Questions like these are just absurd to me? Why would great mentors not be welcome around the program??

What if Dabo wanted to hang out some after he decided to retire? Pretty sure Dabo will be welcome.

Not sure why this question gets asked every spring??

I played Football at Clemson back in the dark Ages and made a statement to one of my former coaches that there are tons of former coaches who were fired from Clemson and coached at other places that came back to the area to live out their retirement. His response was: "These guys have lived and worked all over the country and found they liked the Clemson people best, so they come home to stay." Made sense to me, having done the same thing myself. Maybe Jack felt the same way and he just loves Clemson!
