Ex Machina 8 year review

Jul 5, 2022, 4:41 PM

2014 just called. It brought me Ex Machina. This was a movie I remember the adverts for but just never got around to seeing it till now, on a friend's recommend.

Not a bad flick, sort of low budget with a high-tech vibe. If you're into soft "AI philosophy" stuff and sci-fi it might appeal to you. It's really a psychological cat and mouse thriller, with just a few characters in a tight setting. But who can you trust, and how much can you trust them?

Not plot similarities at all to Blade Runner, but it felt a bit like Blade-Runner Lite in the topic. Has a slick stylistic touch to it. No bangs, no explosions, but a fair amount of full-frontal female nudity, and that's always worth a few points.

Anyhow, it kept my attention for a couple of hours and might be worth a peep. It won't shake your world but if you like a little suspense, some mystery and tension, and bare naked ladies, it's got 'em.

Sci-Fi. I prefer space travel type sci-fi to this type…

I'm game for anything with nude Alicia Vikander.

It’s the deep kind of scifi

which I really like.

I’m finally getting around to finishing Westworld, which is a kind of similar idea, questions the nature of reality. It’s kind of diving into themes best articulated by Julian Jaynes book… the question of where agency comes from and free will.
