why do heavy underdogs not go really crazy with gameplan

Nov 4, 2013, 3:56 AM

Have you ever wondered when watching football if teams that were underdogs and knew they were going to get beat, just try some crazy stuff in hopes that they would win? Like snap the ball to the quarterback and he just runs backwards and stops on the 10 yard line and beckons the defensive guys to come tackle him. Maybe he could do some crazy moves with all of that backfield behind him and have the defense completely out of whack, going, whtheck is going on?

like if a team you are playing has a really good offense. and you win the toss, try to onside kick everytime and get the ball. And what if that team recovered the onside kick everytime and the other teams offense didnt get out there?

you could punt on second down and hope that the player muffs the punt and instantly you are on their end of the field.

who feels me?

everytime you snap the ball to the quarterback

he runs backwards 30 yards real quick, so the fat defensive lineman have to go get him. He could take the ball and go stand on the 20 yard line in the upper corner and when the defensive linemen jog up the field you try to outmaneuver them. or

drop back 20 yards and throw a pass to line of scrimmage and then the other teams defense is busy chasing you down the field. Thats a touch down

Maybe that's because the heavy underdogs would be admitting defeat before the game even began.
If that's the case, why bother to use your starters.
Just use your scrubs so that you can save the 1st team for a game against another inferior team.
You might just pull off the win.

I don't think we'd call them crazy plays, but trickery or

gutsy calls have been used by coaches since the invention of the game.

When faced with stiff competition, I've long maintained that coaches have to "pull out all the stops" to go for a win, but that doesn't mean they have to be foolish.

Regardless, I've never believed that trickery demonstrates the true worth of a team....If successful, it only shows that one coach outfoxed another. When not successful, it makes the attempting coach look foolish.

While we're making suggestions to make football more entertaining, I'd like to submit that I'd like to see more dancing; coaches, cheerleaders, huddle, & pre-snap could all sync up & bring a more theatrical approach to the game. I believe Dabo would outshine any other coach in this regard & Chad Morris likely has some moves. Tiebreakers should also lead to, instead of overtime, a best-of-10 Red Rover competition.
