Podcastnet: Cocaine and Rhinestones

May 13, 2021, 11:58 AM

This is one of my favorite podcasts.

Tyler Mahan Coe (DAC's son) is the host, and it's the history of country music.
It's pretty entertaining, lots of good music, and interesting stories sprinkled with some strong opinions. Kind of meanders around in a good way.

Episodes are pretty long - 1 hour +.

After a long break following Season 1, It's now a couple of episodes into Season 2, discussing the history of the 'nashville sound'.

If you are interested, Season 1 has some excellent episodes to check out in addition to the new episodes. Good stuff on Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Tom T Hall, Loretta Lynn, etc.

My favorites from last season:

Episode 4: Bobby Gentry

Episode 13 - Rusty & Doug Kershaw, including a long description of the recording sessions for Neil Young's 'On the Beach'

Yep, I'm a NY fan but didn't really know that album until

I listened to that episode. Now I've got it in heavy rotation.

I think I first discovered it when Widespread Panic played Vampire Blues (and they have played Walk On for years). I knew that was a Neil tune but didn't know it really well.

Revolution Blues is my jam, real dark, real Laurel Canyon, real rock and roll. Crosby, Danko, and Levon Helm all play on it.

If you haven't seen the Ken Burns Country Music documentary, I highly recommend it.

some one here in the Lounge has one where they opine on what goes on in here. Probably FBCoachSC®

"Today, I was made fun of for selling my house."

"Today, I was made fun of for my wise business decisions."

"Today, I was made fun of because I am a poor."

along those lines, Mike Judge's Tales from the Tour Bus is
