Everybody Has A Good Football Team ---

Kirby Smart tells the room full of the press that Kent St. has a really good football team.

Define * Really Good *

Is Kent St. even ranked in the top 15?
Have they ever beat a team ranked in the top 5 in the last 4 years?
Are they undefeated as of now?
Are they putting up outstanding ridiculous gaudy numbers?

He could have just said they have a decent football team.

An intelligent coach, with class, would never say an opponent is decent. Classy Intelligent coaches would never demean an opponent in any sport.

it's stupid to suggest otherwise. Any coach and any player with any experience knows that the the opposite side us full of competitive and conditioned athletes. To think that a loss to an inferior team is impossible denies reality, increases the risk of such and makes for a huge slice of humble pie. Heck, we could lose to the coots.

Lou Holtz was a master of making an 0-8 team sound like the best 0-8 in the country.

This reminds me of former Clemson kicker Abed Ariri from the 80’s . When he beat the other kicker out in NFL camp for the starting job and was asked about it by a reporter he said basically “ well I hope I beat him out, that guy wasn’t very good”. Certainly one way of answering the question

I think "fundamentally sound" is the coach speak term for those teams that can line up correctly and follow the flow of the game while the "Good" football team runs their practice plays. Of course there is a money exchanged so that is "really good" for the football team that is "fundamentally sound"
