ESPN is holding the UGA/Clemson game hostage

May 29, 2014, 8:40 AM

For those of you wondering why ESPN has not announced a time for our game vs the pups it's quite simple.

While is ESPN still trying to negotiate with Comcast and other major cable providers over the SEC network, they are holding our game hostage and not announcing a time for the game or where it will be aired.

If there is no agreement reached before the start of football season, the UGA/Clemson game will be on the SEC network and not on ESPN or ABC.

With that said, I hope no agreement is reached, my cable bill does not go up in price, and I'll head over to Carolina Wings to watch the game.

That would be a hellofaway to kick off the SEC network.

May 29, 2014, 8:42 AM

Clemson goes in and kicks the dogchit out of their baby!

You have to be naive if you think the SEC referees would

allow that to happen.

There's something in these hills.

Didn't think about the SEC refs.

May 29, 2014, 8:58 AM

Clemson will have to blow them out and take the refs out of the game.

Don't we bring our own?

May 29, 2014, 10:03 AM

Maybe not. I can't remember the crew from last year @ the Valley.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wouldn't it be ACC refs like it is when we play USUCK?

May 29, 2014, 9:04 AM [ in reply to You have to be naive if you think the SEC referees would ]

normally it's an SEC crew at Death Valley and an ACC crew at Williams Brice isn't it?

I would think it would be the same with UGA.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes home field advantage team vs. visiting team conference

May 29, 2014, 9:10 AM

refs. That means we use ACC refs so look out for Mr. Ron Cherry!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not as of late.***

why would they do that for a lowly ACC team matchup?

May 29, 2014, 8:50 AM

I'm not sure a sorry ACC team can legally appear in such a honored, revered place.

Couldn't we be on CBS***

May 29, 2014, 8:55 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure, but that would air on Comcast.

May 29, 2014, 8:57 AM

ESPN is holding our game as ransom threatening to not air it on regular cable or network.

CBS doesn't broadcast games until week 3.

.. I think they have US Open Tennis.

Re: ESPN is holding the UGA/Clemson game hostage

Until something is done about ESPN, local TV stations, and companies like Viacom, then video bills will keep going up. I have always been a proponent of Ă  la carte pricing for video. Big programing companies don't want that though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Reminds me of when they introduced ESPNU. Suddenly

May 29, 2014, 8:58 AM

games were moved to ESPNU for teams in areas where the local cable provider had yet to come to an agreement to pick up the network.

People pitched fits to the local cable companies and they all caved into ESPN's demands.

Clemson should open Death Valley

May 29, 2014, 9:05 AM

and either use the current jumbotron or set up an even bigger screen and welcome everybody to come watch it at the stadium.

*We would still get to tailgate as if a home game

*We wouldn't have to deal with all the Georgia fans

*We would already be at the stadium to welcome the team back after beating the dog snot out of them

Just an idea...feel free to add to the perks of having it broadcast at Death Valley

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great idea.

May 29, 2014, 9:07 AM

Although I think they should charge $5 a person for cleanup.

Hell, make it $10. Did you see what

campus looked like the Sunday after the game. It was a disgrace. If all these people can bring these items to tailgate, they can carry it home with them too.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There would still be about 1,000 leghumpers in the Valley.

May 29, 2014, 9:45 AM [ in reply to Clemson should open Death Valley ]

I have literally never, in my entire life, from Alabama to Florida to SC, to NC and VA been to a football game without seeing a UGA fan.

That includes Div 1AA games and high school games.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL....That's because when a fan says, "We're gonna

beat the dogsh*t out of em," Georgia fans assume they are the opponents...regardless of the venue, date or time.

He1l, that's even true when the real Dawgs are playing in Athens...................

I grew up listening to games on the radio

May 29, 2014, 9:16 AM

I have no problem whatsoever if it's not on TV.

It wouldn't bother me a bit, like it would for today's spoiled techno-crowd that freak out angry if they can't find a "free link" for the Spring Game.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I could do that

May 29, 2014, 9:40 AM

if we won, I'd rewatch it several times on youtube anyways. If we lost, I never have to witness it with my own eyes. Win/Win.

NO ESPN

May 29, 2014, 9:48 AM [ in reply to I grew up listening to games on the radio ]

I have already decided to watch games anywhere but ESPN channels. Even our games, I will listen on the radio. I don't even want to watch Game Day.
