Fun night of a homeowner last night

May 23, 2022, 11:35 AM

Bought a new kitchen faucet to upgrade our old POS. Decided to switch it out last night since it's a quick job. Started about 8:30, opened the cabinet and cleaned everything out to start the process. Turned off the hot supply line, turned off the cold supply and noticed it was a bit wobbly.

Welp, sure enough the shark bite connector that the previous owners used to extend the line popped off. Water starts spraying with no regard so I quickly capped off the line with my palm. Had to yell for my wife who was upstairs putting my daughter to bed. Told her to go turn off the main water valve, told my middle son to open up sinks on the first floor and basement to drain the lines. Major crisis averted.

Now it's close to 9pm and I need a new fitting so we can have running water. Lowes and Home Depot are closed of course. Finally decided to make a trip to Walmart in hopes that they would have one. One the way out of the neighborhood, I saw a house with a plumbing truck in the driveway. Decided to knock on the door and disturb a neighbor on a Sunday night. Super nice guy, was like sure I'll grab my stuff and follow you over. New fitting attached and lines checked out to make sure all was good. He wouldn't take any money and we were back in business by 10 or so.

I guess when I get home today, I'll swap out the faucet.

TLDR: Water supply sprayed, found neighbor fix it and made a new friend

on my roman tub deck mount handle yesterday. Took more time to open the containers than it did to replace the thing.

Anxiety about things going wrong has crept into my home endeavors lately.

drunk at the putt putt.

Yep, plumbing things always make me lose sleep.

Thankfully, found the pro to fix the issue last night. I'm sure I could have done it, but I would have lost sleep worrying that I didn't do it right. Changing the faucet is so easy that I don't worry about the issues.

Not turning the home water supply off was the big issue

I turn the water off before I leave for the weekend. Plumbing, as you said, is more terrifying to me than electrical.
