EPSN Perspective

Jul 7, 2022, 9:32 AM

If we look at this from ESPN's perspective they probably thinking they have a great deal.(We always analyze from a Clemson perspective with emotion involved. They have ACC locked in until 2036 for a cheap price. I mean they are doing the math on all of this. Does adding Clemson, FSU, Miami really increase the value of their SEC product versus keeping the ACC alive and hoping Miami, FSU, VT get back to form and they will have some good games on the cheap.

While we have a lot of emotion involved, believing it impossible SEC or Big Ten does not want us, it is really what the cost benefit analysis is for ESPN. If they think we enhance their SEC product we have a chance, if not expansion of ACC may be only option.

I have been hopeful but this recent news about ACCN being incorporated with PAC 12 games is not encouraging. ESPECIALLY if they are exploring this as a way to find some type of revenue increase while avoiding breaching GOR, which is some of the reports.

It all comes down to the GOR and what it really says.

GOR has been posted on these threads several times. Any team joining the conference must sign the GOR. As I read it, any team joining the ACC results in all teams having to sign the GOR again.

1. I don't see any teams out there that would be willing to sign on the that albatross
2. I don't see the ACC wanting all teams to resign this junk because I don't think Clemson, Miami, FSU, UNC, VaTech or anyone else would sign it again.

Of course ESPN or EPSN as you say, likes the contract because they are in business. Nothing has happened yet that would lead anyone to even wonder about the GOR. When, and if, Notre Dame is invited to the BIG10, we will find out about GOR and then things will start to happen. Dominoes fall when the first one is moved.
