I am taking the Prod approach to this one

Sep 24, 2019, 9:14 PM

the sensationalism is bad for everyone. This is going to tear/rip us apart. If this impeachment and hearings start #### is going to hit the fan.

These past 4 years have been so trivial and everyone is a fault. Literally everyone.

Term limits people. Term limits.

A wise choice

As long as it’s about ### for tat and one side beating the other, I don’t know if term limits will even help . . .different bodies same bullschyatt . . . .but it couldn’t hurt.

I concur. It is necessary if the president committed acts worthy of impeachment (lest this behavior goes unchecked further down the road with other presidents, and Trump has gotten away with too much already as well). But it won't be pretty for our nation.

We've had two corrupt, broken parties running our country for too long (and in much need of the term limits you mention). It cleared a path for an imbecile reality star who wants to be a dictator. Now we're somehow expecting those two party messes to fix it.

Can't wait.

Agreed. For them, the name of the game is staying in the game. Term limits will end the "political ruling class' forever.

Thanks for the compliment, but

I actually support the impeachment inquiry. If had to vote on impeachment, I'd vote "no" right now, but I have thought for a long time that the House should have a vote. There's no reason it should "tear us apart". It will only do that if we the people let it.

The correct attitude for the American people should be: concerned that the President may have broken a law, resolute to find out if he did, and very hopeful that he did not, wishing enthusiastically for his exoneration.

This is the equivalent of the police

Sep 25, 2019, 6:40 AM

deciding to investigate a crime, after someone came to the police station and reported it.

The President has not yet been accused of the crime (formally; I understand media sensationalism is different). The impeachment is the accusation, which has not been voted on yet.

If he is accused (impeached), then the Senate vote would be the equivalent of the guilty/not guilty verdict.

No one gets mad when the police decide to investigate a crime. No one should be mad that the House is investigating a crime, if it's their Constitutional responsibility to do so.

No, it's not.

Sep 25, 2019, 7:34 AM

It's not. I know people like to talk in extremes (do they get this from cable news?), and maybe you're just trying to be funny. But there will not be a civil war because of this. We will have an election in 2020, someone will win, the other side will whine for four years, but otherwise everyone's lives will pretty much stay the same.

We’re at a boiling point not seen since 1968ish.

Sep 25, 2019, 7:39 AM

Outright, true war? Probably not. Rampant partisan bloodshed? Yes.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg2016_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What does that even mean?

Sep 25, 2019, 7:43 AM

I assume you don't mean that people are going to be literally killing each other? What is "rampant partisan bloodshed"?

People are going to sit on their sofa, eating Cheetohs and posting on social media about stinkin' liberals and fascist republicans.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Welp, just up the road from me there's already been killing.

one death over two years ago, the murderer roundly condemned by everyone in the country, is hardly a harbinger of rampant impending bloodshed.

Sep 25, 2019, 8:27 AM

I live and work in an area greatly affected by the move away from traditional manufacturing and that is not populated by the highly educated. The people in flyover country who've been left behind in the 21st century economy are also ones who tend to hold to traditional values (Obama's guns and Bibles crowd, Hitlery's deplorables) and I guarantee you, when those people have had enough, it will be bad.

Enough of people who disagree with them having power

Sep 25, 2019, 2:19 PM [ in reply to Had enough of what? ]

This is going on on both the right and the left, as people have decided that nobody can legitimately disagree with them, and that no power that doesn't do exactly what they want is legitimate. We used to say that America had lost its moral consensus; now it seems to be losing its consensus about even its own governing institutions.

I suppose that could lead to some sort of civil war, as political solutions to issues are no longer seen as adequate or legitimate. Or it could just lead to more complaining on the internet. Or- imagine this- the complainers could actually get involved in reforming our institutions.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And I'm telling you, it won't happen.

Sep 25, 2019, 9:19 AM [ in reply to Seriously, I'm just reporting what I see. ]

Couches. Beer. TV. Social media. All that stuff Prod said.

The only people who keep throwing out the idea of civil war are Trumpies, which shows how ###### up in the head they are over this president. That crowd really does seem to have a hard-on for wanting to kill fellow Americans.

The rest of the nation has its sanity.
