But! Do you know what the most fun era of Clemson football has been? THE RISE! Starting around 2012, through to the 2016 Natty, what a ride it was. From an afterthought to kings. Wow.
Don't get me wrong, it's been great to be on top.
But we have a very unique opportunity, because we still have Dabo. Most schools see a downturn when they lose their Dabo. We didn't! We have the rare opportunity to do it all over again! To build a new staff, new players, and rise again.
The rise from mediocre to champions was so much fun. Beginning the days after the WVU meltdown things began to swing in a direction only a few programs have been able to sustain. The 2012 season through the first championship was the best of times.
It’s hard to say the 2015-2020 were not the best, but that rise was special. The coaches, the standard, all-in, recruits, stadium updates, National exposure, happened during that build from end of 2011 season through 2016/2017 National Champions
I’m excited to get that momentum back. Losing 3 games, losing BV, possibly losing other coaches, means that a transition is under way and I trust Dabo to get the Tigers back to the top very soon.
Totally agree. My daughter was the Tiger Cub mascot for the 2014-2016 seasons. The last part of the climb back to the top. I remember gathering at the paw with her after clinching the division in 2015 and both of us just yelling “we’re going to Charlotte!” I’m not sure who was more excited, me or her. Then the trips to Miami and Phoenix and Tampa almost seemed surreal. I was a sophomore in 1981 and it seemed like so long ago. That is why I am so hard on “fans” who have this expectation that this can happen every year. It is special and I’m glad I got to enjoy it, especially with my daughter - her last game in the Cub suit was the Tampa 2016 championship. We should never take these experiences for granted. I do believe we will be right back in it sooner than later. Dabo says - the best is yet to come - and if it is - man is it going to be fun!
said the same many times these past few years. My deceased son and daughter-in-law werre Clemson students during that time. Students still camped out for visits, could pack in the hill/student section and were early and loud; still had the balloons. Those years were the first pregame and 4th quarter videos which were the best. They were at those bowl games. My daughter-in-law says those games, Notre Dame monsoon etc are some of her top best memories.
