The environmental expenditure (waste) isn’t in dispute, but NPR’s alleged role in reporting the waste was misstated by the OP.
Such is the depth of desperation that DOGE haters have descended.

It's only practical that wasteful spending is reigned it, but it will be interesting to see how many jobs are lost and how much people that need the services are inconvenienced in this country. People in the country are struggling and I think you might see some of this backfire and the voting booth. The general consensus in the country is that we are working towards the Guilded Age type country again.

As long as attention to the crime exposes the criminals happens, then subsequent deeper investigations into the criminals’ activities are likely to reveal more crimes that the thieves had committed.
It’s the ‘small’ stuff that often ends up exposing criminals for their much larger crimes. The ‘small’ stuff is frequently not given the same effort to cover up as the ‘big’ stuff. After being actually caught for the ‘small’ crimes, the formal investigative process then uncovers the big crimes.
Also, crimes which are small with respect to the federal debt are often significant as to the degree of what constitutes an individual person’s crimes.
Biden Crime Family crimes, for example, are unimportant (monetarily speaking) as to the federal debt.

I don't like Elon, but I do believe there are 100's of billions of dollars being wasted. I am not sure what the ramifications of cleaning it up some are. Maybe less jobs, less stimulus for the economy, maybe cuts where cuts don't need to be which hurts the public, maybe it all goes smoothly and is for the best. It should be interesting. One thing I am wondering though is why Elon cares about this issué?

Realize it has been going on for ever and by both political PARTIES (<~what they are) which doesn’t excuse it happening nor condoned.
As far as Elon (and Trump). they have made their billions and don’t have to ravage the political trough per se..
AND “one” reason they are so hated is they can not be bought or steered as readily.
Go for it Guys since there will never be as good of a chance to rid the Pork Rind crooks!!!

The sad thing is that Musk and others just think they saved the government 1.9 billion dollars. Read the part that says "de-obligated the funds which are now available for other use by the Treasury."
If they hadn't found the funds that weren't going to be used, the funds wouldn't have been used at all. It's like a lost uncashed check. If the check stays lost, the funds remain in the original account. If you find it and cash it, the funds don't. Except in this case, the funds disappear from the account at the end of the FY and the government would have spent 1.9 billion less.
