Early morning water cooler talk at work today. Polygamy.

Coworker talking about First Baptist Church in Greenville celebrates marrying gay couples in the church.
He doesn't understand if "love is love" then why the church also doesn't recognize a man or a woman who wishes to have a second husband or second wife. Why does the church limit love to only 2 people?
Is it possible for a man or woman to love 2 people? Should the church recognize that? Should the church (not the state) recognize gay marriage?

as discussed on here last week, a man may indeed have the ego to be able to satisfy and keep 2 women happy, but the stark - proven by the annals of time - reality is that no mortal man can even sustain ONE woman's happiness.
So the law bans this practice because it cannot feasibly end well.

True. It never ends well. It also doesn't exist, unless

coerced by a religion or some other measure. Given complete freedom though, it never works. NEVER.
I've seen married couples where the wife has a man on the side, or the man has a woman on the side, and sometimes the spouse is accepting of that. But true polygamy, with 2 women living in the same house married to the same man, with the same status, or vice versa, never happens. Haven't seen it in 20+ years.
Now "technical" polygamy exists and is somewhat common. This is where a man marries a woman, they separate, then he (or she) remarries a second time without getting a divorce. But in that case it's technically polygamy, legally, but it's never polygamy in practice where everyone lives together. Nope.
Again, I have never seen a true polygamy situation. I've seen it tried, but it never lasts, not even a year.

Coach, and Mrs. Facebook Coach calls both Mr. Coach and Mr. Trooper her husband, then that is polygamy. And that is what never happens. Facebook Coach comes home drunk one night and shoots the trooper, or vice versa. Now say the trooper is married, then you can get into an upside down pineapple situation, but that's still not polygamy. Again, technically.

If a man loses half of everything he has in a divorce with one woman, when a man and two women get divorced, does he lose everything?

I believe it was the great philosopher Redd Foxx who said, "Women. They have half the money and all of the p*ss*... and you know that if they have all of the p*ss*, pretty soon they'll have all of the money."
