Many programs make high risk players aka ones with previous knee injuries wear a knee brace. Many college programs force all lineman to whether or not they have previous injury to their knee.
An insurance policy carried on a college player may force a program to make that high risk player wear such a brace on a previously injured knee

He's saying that an insurance policy carried on DW4 (or a potential coaching mandate) required him to wear a brace in college.

Now that he's officially a professional making his own decisions, he's not wearing one.

Not sure why that was so hard to understand, but hope the explanation helps.

He didn't wear it for about 2 games this past season. I think after the Troy game he started wearing it again. Probably just whatever he is most comfortable with

Watson and Clemson used last year, forced him to wear the brace based on the previous injury.

I would imagine he had a policy worth several million on his body last year at Clemson.
