Duke's pitching is strong ... no excuse for losing but it's

Apr 10, 2016, 4:56 PM

the truth. They had us handcuffed for most of the time in all three games.

It was no accident that we hit into 5 double plays today ... even though one was botched allowing us our only run.

Hopefully, since we just hired the guy who developed that Duke pitching staff over the past three seasons, we'll begin to reap the benefits (soon) ...

Duke's pitching was effective all weekend. They were benefitted by the wind blowing in the first two games, particularly on Several shots to LF in game 2.
While the coaching point is noted, two of the pitchers for Duke who ended up throwing Half the 27 innings for Duke this weekend were graduate transfers from Cornell who arrived at Duke after Coach See left.

Sunday's Duke pitcher also pitched a complete game shutout of Virginia earlier in the season. Sunday was his second complete game. There is a reason Coach Lee hired Duke's pitching coach.

Agreed. Duke is a pretty good ball club. It's a shame because Eubanks pitched a darn good ball game Sunday. Hopefully we can figure out a way to get two at Louisville this weekend and make up for that. Won't be easy.

I agree, Duke is no push over. We should have at least won 2 out of 3, but with Duke pitching like they were, it was going to be hard. With the number of hits we got, we should have won another one, but just couldn't bring those runs in.

I agree ... we missed a lot of scoring opportunities, but

on Sunday I was in at the game and frankly, not only was Duke's pitching virtually untouchable, they were also pounding the ball at the plate.

They gave up a few hits and walks, but then they induced 5 double plays to take us out of potential big innings (they botched one and allowed us to score our only run) and we had to make three fantastic defensive plays in the outfield to keep the game from becoming a rout.
