Report: Duck Commander is new sponsor for Independence Bowl

Posted by Chris Huston on February 23, 2014, 3:52 PM EST

AP
The Independence Bowl, known in recent years as the Avocare V100 Bowl, has a new sponsor.

The Shreveport-based bowl will be known as the Duck Commander Independence Bowls next season, according to a tweet on Sunday from ESPN’s Brett McMurphy. The naming rights will run for six years.

DuckCommander.com, of course, is the online home of the immensely popular A&E television series “Duck Dynasty”.

Recent controversy surrounding one of the stars of the show, Phil Robertson, will no doubt drive the narrative regarding this news.

Would this be the first television show to sponsor a bowl game? A precedent doesn’t spring to mind. It makes you wonder if we’ll soon be seeing the “Homeland Fiesta Bowl” or the “Dancing With the Stars Cotton Bowl”.

Deer AP: Doesn't sound like a TV show is sponsoring it...

sounds like a company that specializes in hunting supplies is sponsoring it. It's not the "Duck Dynasty Independence Bowl."

the sponsorship if it wasn't for the success of the show.

Nevertheless, the show is not sponsoring it.

PS: I'm not emotionally vested in the argument, I just noticed a comparison that was flawed.

Do they make coot calls too? I bet if they do it sounds something like "SEC, SEC, SEC!!"

deer tigerking79: duck commander would'nt

Feb 25, 2014, 2:05 AM

Have gotten the show if it wasn't for the success of the calls and videos.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wrong, they only got the show because they were willing...

Feb 25, 2014, 2:08 AM

to make fools of themselves on TV.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i guess You're right

Feb 25, 2014, 2:19 AM

anybody who was willing to make a fool of themselves on tv could have been thrown into a show called duck dynasty and been made stars. They didnt really need a family with a successful duck call business and a following from a bunch of hunting dvds.

You say chicken, i say egg. Or either you say egg, in that case, i say chicken

The original

Feb 25, 2014, 7:23 AM

Duck commander show was way more entertaining than duck dynasty. It was actual duck hunting and the things said were funnier than the staged events on duck dynasty

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ain't Shreveport a little to high class for that camo clown crew?***
