Draw plays and WR screens....

Ok, the season is behind us and my biggest reflection about the offense was the WR screens and draw plays that worked possibly a handful of times (screens, not draws) but were tried repeatedly throughout the season.
I remember one time on TNet people were guessing the first play in a game and someone correctly guessed a WR screen for a 2-year loss. SMH.
Ajou Ajou could never be taught how to block the WR screen and Swinney quite simply couldn't execute it. Ajou is gone.
Now here we are with basically the same offensive staff, same line, and same QB. I mean how does anyone think we are going to suddenly produce yards next season.
I am not looking to simply stir it up but would like adult conversation here because I would like to be convinced that our offense will take off next year.

To say Grisham has been underwhelming is an understatement. The WR couldn't catch or block. However, at least he played at Clemson, which is most important.
I'm coming to the conclusion that Dabo promoted Streeter because he can easily overrule his play calls. An outside hire would push back against that. On the positive side, Steeter had some nice play calls against Iowa State. I just think DJU is just a poor fit for our offense. Klubnik might start sooner rather than later if DJU can't get it together.
As for our OL, Thomas Austin had success at Georgia State. Outride of that, he's an unknown. I believe the offense will improve, by how much, I don't know.
Now, we just have to hope our offensive staff of former players is better than we think. It's disappointing that Dabo won't go outside the program to hire anymore.

I remember when Jeff Scott was a young coach and his receiver room was thin that guys like you thought he was a terrible coach who did not know what he was doing. The next year Nuk joined and things got better then Sammy and things improved again.
As for the OL, their play at the end of the season was very good. At the beginning we had some inexperience and the line had not jelled. Caldwell was a very good coach but we struggled over the past few years attracting the same level of talent as other positions. I expect Austin to be a solid additon and our line will improve based on young guys with another years experience...not because Caldwell was not a good coach.
Its interesting that a casual fan with zero experience (I can tell from your post) building a football staff can second guess a future HOF coach.

Speaking of predicable play calls

Can you just say your piece without telling people you disagree with that they don't know what they are talking about?
Again, the concept of a discussion board means people with varying opinions came come to discuss, agree, or disagree. I don't think being a former NFL coach is a requirement here last I checked.
If you're looking for a safe space where you don't get triggered by other people's opinions maybe don't read posts from people you know who might challenge your thinking.

I don't have a clue..Just hope it's not the same thing..Out of habit I already don't expect the O-line to block..Just hope whoever the QB, (we know) will be able to run

screens and draw plays, the team has things to fix. You have to run those plays to get better at football. You can't abandon certain types of plays because you don't execute well on those plays, you end up with no plays to run.

we had announcers calling the game questioning that stuff.
I don't know, I think I would quit running the draw play with our interior line this year.

I see several positives pointing to better offensive production going into next year.
- the offensive line played better and were more healthy toward the end of the year. All are returning and will be more experienced and bigger/stronger after another year of weight training and nutrition.
- we are stacked at running back. Even if we don’t get Trevor ETN. Same thing - young and learning/growing. And I think we will use these guys more next year - like we did at the end of this season.
- wide receiver room looks good if they can stay healthy. And add Will Taylor and at least a couple of freshmen that could contribute.
- I’d be extremely surprised if our QB stats aren’t much better next year, regardless of who wins the starting job. There was a lot that went into this besides just the QB play and we’ve already beaten that horse to a pulp.
After typing all this - I’m pretty excited about next year n

And we didn’t have the “same line” for more than a game or two this year. Injuries made our line a Chinese fire drill all year long.
