DRad is digging a hole

Jun 7, 2014, 9:46 PM

by bringing JL back. He will find no assistants that will help him turn this around. Postponing the inevitable just drags the program down further for the next coach. Attendance next year will be pathetic. I hate it for the players, but 95%,not 5%,are fed up with Leggett. Count me in the group that has lost confidence in the new AD. Apparently Leggett has support from some heavy donors and some on the Board, because, otherwise he would be outta here. How much further must he drag the program down?

good question.. he has been dragging our baseball program straight down for ???? years.. really since 2002!! he has had some OK years but the overall program is going DOWN!!if DRad can`t see this then how is he to lead our overall programs?? I have lost confidence in him also!

Plus 1 ramrod ! First Drad goes and hires the brown nosing Don Munson to call the football games. Now he keeps an arrogant jerk in Jack Leggett who can't admit the baseball program is in a bad slide. Drad you have sunk this baseball program into a joke. I hope only the Leggett cultists show up for games. I hope season ticket sales drop to nothing. May Doug Kingsmore be devoid of fans. Why would a quality assistant coach want to come here knowing the turmoil around Jack? Why would any quality recruit want to attend Clemson with Leggett as coach?

Say this was football . The program was in a four year slide with no signs of improvement. Do you think the head coach at that time would stand a chance of keeping his job? Why is it different for a non revenue sport?

Well if the equivalent to going to ncaa's in baseball every year is bowl games in football then chances are the HC keeps his job like Bowden did. Bowden didn't sink the program but lots of promise that never amounted to much. Only reason why Bowden is gone is because he wouldn't fire rob spence. However, I'm not a legget supporter because I want a fresh new young exciting top coach. Legget isn't getting it done even if he is by terrible either. If not this year soon. However I don't think it's time to call for drads head yet.

Have season tix even though I live 200 miles away. Have you been to games this year and seen the pitiful fundamentals, lack of enthusiasm on the field and in the stands? Do you seriously appreciate this program being lapped by usuc, uncheat,UVA,FSU,and Miami? Do you think the slide of the last 4 years will be turned around by Leggett? Please answer.

inconsistency between this and football. Better seasons than this had most people wanting TB fired. Then he did get fired halfway through a season. And Dabo was getting lukewarm support through the end of the 2011 season; broad but shallow until then. And even now, one 7-5 season would start the grumbling.

In baseball, the decline has been steady for years. Apply the same standards and Jack should be gone. But he's not.

Personally, I am fine with him going or staying. Not my problem. But I do wonder why the difference.

The kids deserve support but empty seats will show Drad the anger in keeping the bad news bear coach. I support my country and everything it stands for but can't stand the dictator in office. I'm sorry Lecroy is caught up in this mess. He needs to leave for a better job .

I'll be at all the games as always mo matter who coaches

Jun 7, 2014, 10:29 PM

your 95% number is just totally made up as I see it.

It's about 50-50 in my world (which is the town of Clemson, campus and close by), with most of the anti's not really baseball fans/attendees. The people I associate with that go to most every game lean about 70-30 to keeping Jack. I trust them a bit more than the absentee crowd, who rant and rave just to hear themselves rant and rave for the most part.

I see both sides. I think keeping him one more year won't hurt anything that much. He deserves that in my eyes being here 20+ years with no scandals, he's run a good, clean program. If things go to crap early next year, he can announce his retirement and go out with dignity. Baseball is such a turnover sport - you can go up or fall down very quickly. The last 2 National Champs (Arizona and UCLA) haven't even made the NCAAs since. It's tough out there now, much tougher than it used to be.

We'll have a totally new clubhouse to help recruit next season, be it Leggett's staff or a brand new one.

Like your statement that keeping Leggett one more year won't hurt anything all that much. With that attitude we will really get to the top of the mountain. If you and the other Leggett apologists can't see how far this program has fallen you are wearing blinders.

Not so. In my world which includes nobodies like me to 30+ year high level donors, only one couple supports jack. I will no longer attend the baseball dinner to have jl blow smoke up my ####, and next year my attitude will be show me and convince me you are not what I think you are. Will always support the players, but our two coaches are fair game. Lecroy is a recruiter.

Re: DRad is digging a hole

Jun 7, 2014, 10:40 PM

D-Rad did the right think. I don't think Jack will replace any assistance so hiring new ones want be a problem.

The worst thing D-Rad could have done is fire Jack that would not have gone well. If he did fire him you can forget getting any of his former assistants to come back and lead the program. So who do you go get? One of the coaches who is having one year of success? Jack built the Western Carolina program, he was hand picked by BW. Jack has played in the CWS as a player at Maine, he has been an assistant coach in the CWS, and a head coach in the CWS. He will get the program back at that level with or without your support. If he doesn't then the best thing for the Clemson program would be for Jack to retire. Firing Jack would not be the best thing for this program long term.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The problem we seem to have is

Jun 7, 2014, 10:55 PM

the fact that we seem to think that we have to have someone connected to Jack to have a decent program. In all honesty what has any of Jack's former assistants shown us that they would do anything more than what Jack has done?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The problem we seem to have is

Jun 7, 2014, 11:00 PM

yep the same idiots that want jack gone want us to hire a guy that will coach the game exactly like jack does. not only that no one that coached for jack would come here to take his place if he is fired. they also dont realize how he is looked at across the country and what he has done for the game.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IMO

Jun 7, 2014, 11:27 PM

the best thing that could happen would be if we made all of Jack's former assistants mad enough they wouldn't come here. We need new blood to revitalize a declining program.

And the thought that if we get rid of Jack that no one would want to come here to coach is just as foolish as wanting Corbin and O'Sullivan. First off, if things were so tough here Jack would have bailed a long time ago. Second, the only way we don't attract a decent head coach is if we try to hire on the cheap. We are an established program in one of the best baseball conferences in the country located in a talent rich region. It's simple defeatism to think that we wouldn't have a long, long list of qualified coaches express interest in our head coaching job if it were to come open.

If Jack would have been shown the door. Monte Lee would have been my choice. He is a good recruiter and a good BB coach. And if he can recruit and win the way he is doing at the College of Charleston, he could surly do it at Clemson.

That too many Tiger fans think that there is a birthright to being a Clemson fan that guarantees them the absolute best sports programs in America if not the Universe. Football, Basketball, BASEBALL, and all the rest.

If winning is the only thing that scratches your itch, if enjoying Clemson sports for what it is is not enough to satisfy you, then please find something that does make you happy and get the heck off Tigernet.

Go Tigers.

If you don't want the best athletic programs

Jun 8, 2014, 12:21 AM

then don't send them out to play. To do otherwise is just wasting time and money. Money I might add that myself and other IPTAY donors are supplying.

And I have yet to see any post about replacing Jack or any other coach bring up being the "absolute best". I have, however, seen plenty that bring up just being competitive with our peer programs. I guess in your defeatist mind that is too much to ask.

How bad do you Leggett apologists want to see this program drop before you will see the truth? I would imagine future assistant coaches are watching this situation and know it will be a big
risk to coach under a lame duck arrogant coach. The same can be said for recruits. Has Drad guaranteed arrogant Jacks job if the season goes south next year ? It's okay to lose at Clemson now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I just read that....

Jun 8, 2014, 10:36 AM

I agree with the poster above I live in Clemson and have had season tickets for 25 years. I would say about 60-65% support Jack. Now the Tigernet % is very different from that as internet boards are mainly for complaining. All you have to do is read them and it's tough to disagree with that. So, it is not surprising that if this board would reflect otherwise.

We don't need another arrogant uptight jerk like Jack. There is no way I would let him decide Clemsons future. I don't care if Jack has a nice exit or not.
