Don't get down on this team! And lay off BV!

I would not trade our coaching staff for any in the nation.
Take away the big run backs on the kickoffs and the game last night is a nailbiter at best, not one that got away from us.
The 3-4 three and outs had as much to do with the loss as the D did. Just move the ball and eat some clock and we're looking at a different score (this is actually my main criticism of The Chad - he seems to forget how to keep the chains moving at critical times).
We have awesome talent and hung tough last night. If FSU loses this season it will only be because they beat themselves.
Support this team. We're still MILES ahead of where we were pre-Dabo and the future (including the rest of this season) is bright!

the defense is terrible, BV was a terrible hire. those long runbacks on ST's actually helped the defense, it saved them from having to be out there for FSU to push them around for 80 yards. They gave up almost 700 yards!!!

"The 3-4 three and outs had as much to do with the loss as the D did. Just move the ball and eat some clock and we're looking at a different score"
This sort of stuff irks me.
It's like being back in the Koenning/Spence days when our offense would go out and lay an egg and people would gripe about the defense giving up a late TD.
Our offense put up nearly 40 points on a very good defense. We lost this game because our D let FSU do whatever they wanted. Our offense played well enough to beat any team in the country. Quit expecting perfection from them and realize that the game was lost because our defense would need to improve by a huge margin to even be classified as mediocre.

Sure, there are issues to be addressed on D.

No one denies it. Not the coaching staff. No one.
But there were plenty of lapses to go around. Just support this awesome Clemson team the rest of the way. That's all I'm saying.

Rebuttal (a little long winded)

No one--absolutely no one--can make a rational argument that if you give up 9+ yards per play, that our DC is somehow one of the best in the nation (as you put it). I'm still reserving judgement on BV until the season is over, but right now, what I'm seeing is a continuation of last year: DE's are invisible, can't set the edge; LB's can't shed blocks, nor cover underneath; DB's can't/won't wrap up and can't find the ball in the air in M2M coverage (Robinson is the worst CB I've ever seen at this level....how in the world did we evaluate this guy and recruit him?).
Meanwhile, we have Cortez Davis, Steward, Townsend and Goodson on the sidelines watching while BV hems and haws about "evaluating" things. We've got to put our best, most athletic 11 out there NOW, not next year. NOW. For all intents and purposes, the ACC title game just got away from us last night so we need to play these guys (why didn't we redshirt them then?). I don't see FSU losing to anyone in the ACC at this point.
Right now, BV isn't off to a good start. So I must respectfully disagree with you and state that I don't see any improvement from last year. At all.

that evaluation is dead on

I do think Venables can coach but I think he has to take the approaach that the "experienced' guys arent getting it done. The more Steward, Townsend and goodson see the field the better they will get. Goes for the secondary too. I really thought Steward would play more last night given how much that game meant to him.

Is it possible the lack of improvement..which is, I agree, semmingly evident..a result of talent deficiencies versus coaching abilities..? I'm not declaring BV the greatest DC around, but he's 4 games in to his new team. He, you , me, none of us...always come out firing on all cylinders when we start a new job. BV coached well enough last year to beat FSU...did he just forget how to coach ?
Our D is not playing well right now and our players are not executing at 100%...man I can't stand it when I see someone not wrap up on a tackling attempt...but maybe, just maybe we have missed evaluations that are biting us. Not going to call any players by name, but there are some 4-star players, highly recruited players, who are not playing as we might have expected. Now is that coaching or miss evaluation of talent or a player who just can't get it....? I don't know and I suspect very few of us in the stands do.

agree...while we laid 37 points on what many have been saying is the best 'D' in the country..our string of 3 and out cost us huge. The D was getting no rest and that catches up with you, that's part of football..wear the other team down - and that's exactly what they did.
and the kick-off effort was another huge factor..poor, poor tackling and a big momentum changer.
Disappointed as everyone else is and I'm as poor a loser as anyone, but we are not a national champion team...a no loss title contender...but we can be and I like where we are headed. Now I just got to get over being pissed off.

Defense on the punt return was by far the biggest f--- up and momentum changer, including the recovered fumble then gave it back with the interception. Our offense is sick, but at times need to slow down just a little with a defense who obviously can not keep up with The Chad! Not to mention, are we ever going to actually pressure a quarterback and put a net on the front line to prevent someone waling ten yards whenever they want? Gotta say I expected a little better with the nose guard getting to the QB and DE's, well I didn't even know we had those on the field last night.
