Yea but if you slip up and lose a game you most likely won't fall as far in the polls. So a high ranking can be to your advantage. It just means more.

if the committee released pre-season polls, which they do not, or if we were in the BCS era which factored in AP or Coaches Poll. Early ranking has absolutely no bearing on any of the committee rankings.
