Don't know about you but I'm sick of the ESPN SEC love fest

Dec 20, 2012, 9:43 AM

Doesn't the ESPN exec's realize that the other 95% of the football world that's NOT the SEC sees through their poorly veiled, self-promotional scheme? Looks to me arrogance just attracts arrogance.

I stopped watching any Live ESPN shows (other than games)

Dec 20, 2012, 9:50 AM

and I've been in such a better mood when it comes to college football this season.

I can definitely see this is a just a promotion

Dec 20, 2012, 9:50 AM

by them...it's not about past performance....6 national titles in a row......playing for a seventh in a few weeks.....a .655% bowl win percentage by the conference since 2006 vs our .380 win percentage....it's all about promotion......

Re: I can definitely see this is a just a promotion

Dec 20, 2012, 12:06 PM

yeah but they don't tell you is that prior to the current 6 game streak, the SEC had only won 3 of the previous 16 national championships.

the SEC dominance has only coincided with ESPN's pimpage of them

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The acc had its chance the last week of the season

Dec 20, 2012, 10:02 AM

and we all failed GT,Fla St, and us. Now we have chance in the bowl game and next season to show espn and the world that we can beat the sec, but until then ....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

exactly....put up or shut up***

If someone beats them, it'll stop.

Hard to argue when they win their OOC matchups, bowl games, and title matchups.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, of course they realize this, but

Dec 20, 2012, 10:15 AM

they've also realized that the other 95% don't generate the same amount of cash.

This is a business, and the fact that you continue to watch or visit their site only further enriches ESPN. In fact, you've even offered them free advertising by linking to one of their articles.

You know it's bad when they're forcing me to pull for

Dec 20, 2012, 10:35 AM

####### Notre Dame...

Re: You know it's bad when they're forcing me to pull for

Dec 20, 2012, 10:50 AM

You know, you don't HAVE to pull for Notre Dame. Just lie down, close your eyes, relax and sleep. It's painless and you'll love it. You'll be remade into something better. Your old self will be taken away and your new body will rise from your pod . . . and you'll be so-ooo happy! Nighty night, now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they're just selling to an audience at this point

Dec 20, 2012, 10:50 AM

Doesn't help that a lot of what they're saying is true. Still, they don't need to constantly harp on the conference stuff.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they are selling what brings them the ratings

Dec 20, 2012, 10:56 AM

and the fact is SEC football brings in the crowd. It's a train that is picking up steam and the momentum is going to just increase because recruits see this as well. Look at the recruiting services at the end of the year...more than 1/2 of the top 10 will be SEC teams.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it wasn't always this way, though

Dec 20, 2012, 11:56 AM

so there isn't any reason to expect this to go on forever.

Re: it wasn't always this way, though

Dec 20, 2012, 12:09 PM

True but the greater the disparity of income to a conference, the more likely that conference is to be the best. You've got many mid-tier to bottom feeder SEC schools that are improving greatly (see South Carolina). Others such as Arkansas have faced tough times but still had a ton of money to steal a big name coach from another conference.

It's hard to see the SEC getting weaker anytime soon when teams can constantly shell out top dollar for their coaches. Auburn may've been doomed to sucking for 5-10 years in another conference, but because they have the money they were able to fire cheezwhiz after only 1 crappy season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Which part of that article is not true...

Dec 20, 2012, 11:01 AM

...and feel free to post the ACC's Bowl record over the same period. It has nothing to do with a "lovefest".

Better teams = better games = more viewers = more money.

How many TV sets you think will be tuned in to the Orange Bowl?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well he only mentioned "SEC" 27 times in that article

Dec 20, 2012, 11:02 AM

just in case you forgot what conference he was talking about.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If SEC or Holtz is involved on any of their shows, I change

Dec 20, 2012, 11:25 AM

the channel. That also goes for First Take. Can't stand SAS.

SEC has dominated football for most of the past decade.
