need ATL advice for the GT game

Apr 24, 2022, 1:34 PM

Anyone familiar with the area? Is it better to stay at the airport and Marta to the game? Is it better to Uber to a hotel and walk to the game? If anyone has any plans I would love to hear them. TY

Done all that. Depends on kickoff time.

If it's an early KO, drive home (depends on where you live). If home is far away, drive closer to home after game and stay somewhere along the way.

Airport is kinda far, but if you're flying in, stay at airport and Marta. Again, depends on KO time.

There are a lot of very nice hotels close-by that you can Uber or walk back and forth.

Lot of great restaurants in ATL.

My plans? Not going as of right now.

I forgot that the game is in the Ga Dome!!! My bad!

Dome has A/C, so that's a plus. There is a Marta close-by, so airport is doable. Hotels will be more of an Uber than a walk.

What is this Ga Dome you refer to? I believe it suffered the same demise as Fulton County Stadium. However, if you go to where the Ga Dome used to be and look around, you can't miss Mercedes-Benz Stadium next door.

I recommend staying in Midtown Atlanta. That’s where Georgia Tech is located, and there are many nice hotels and great restaurants in the area. It’s safe, so you shouldn’t feel uncomfortable walking around. Just use common sense as you would in any urban area.

You can easily take MARTA from the airport (station is right beside baggage claim at ATL) directly to Midtown. You don’t need a car unless you just want one. The train will take you through some not so great parts of Atlanta between the airport and Midtown, but it isn’t dangerous. Like any big city, you’ll probably see some panhandlers on public transit but they are generally harmless. MARTA has clean trains as far as subway systems go, but it’s still public transit.

Hope this helps.

Edited to add: I forgot that it’s at Mercedes-Benz and not Georgia Tech. MARTA is still a good option, you’ll just stay downtown instead of Midtown. My post applies otherwise.

I would not stay near the airport. If the game is at Tech, then get a hotel near tech square. There will be a lot to do in walking distance. And the game will be close. HTH.

......get a hotel near the airport or I myself might get a hotel in Brookhaven and take the Marta into the stadium.

Crime is crazy as chit right now in downtown Atlanta. Hopefully it will be cleaned up some by the day of the game. Best refuge spot would be Brookhaven area.

Monday Labor Day game. The game will most likely be a 7:30 game meaning it will be over late. So I would stay as close to the MB stadium as possible as in walking distance. There will be a ton of people walking as the leave the stadium. Take Marta or Uber back to the airport

All ticket websites say 1pm ko. We are staying at airport because we are flying in day of game. Don’t want to have to get up early to fly home.
