Does what the conference does …

Sep 6, 2021, 9:30 AM

… affect chances of making the playoffs with one loss and an ACC Championship in the pocket?

Yes, imo. We will need a couple of somewhat perceived decent competition. FSU gave us a good chance last night. FSU needs to dominate and be 6-1 and ranked in our game. Then beat Fla in their final game. Finish 10-2. That'd give the CFP a reason to pick us over another 1 loss team.

I think we probably should win the rest of the games and get to the championship before we worry about any of that. Just sayin.

Agree but let’s assume CU wins out in impressive fashion … what happens if the ACC as a whole doesn’t look much better.

Agree, and I am not a gambler

But I would take any action that an ACC champion team, ranked in the top 5 and riding a 12 game winning streak, is a 1000% lock for the CFP. I would not bet that we will win the next 12, but I will bet that if we do, we will be in the playoff, regardless of what the rest of the ACC does. Any takers?

It does

It always matters.

If, for example, Clemson & Miami both ONLY have the week-one loss & then face each other for the ACC title game, that would be a MASSIVE opportunity even with our schedule.

Yeah, I know Miami also doesn't play Notre Dame this year but they do have North Carolina & it could be enough to hopefully give us a chance to prove if we can make a spot for one of four elite-level teams with a good enough resume.

The favorable schedule also means we're more likely to see other teams lose across the nation instead of just us in week 1, & while it's not the same as controlling our own destiny, it will make those games much more exciting from here.

Yes. Unfortunately the ACC did nothing to improve the perception of the league over the weekend. It all depends on what the other teams do. Most likely there will be 2 teams that will be a sure thing to get in, after that probably 3 teams going for 2 spots. I would put a 12-1 Clemson at a 70-80% chance to make it. They lose 1 more or even struggle in games they should dominate then they are out.
