I would tell him "no." If you do not want to honor the contract, then you sit out for a year. That scolley could have been given to someone else who wanted to be at FSU, but you accepted it. Deal with it.

FSU has already been on probation (just got off) with the NCAA for recruiting violations, might be better to say good-bye good luck

By NCAA rules UGA cannot have contact with said recruit before FSU gives him a release. Looks like a possibility w/o question though, he was offered and took an on campus visit in Feb.

FSU will release him, but.....

I believe he would still have to sit out one year before being eligible to play.

If FSU refused to release him, he could still transfer but he would have to sit out two years.

I believe that's the rule.

I doubt FSU refuses to release him. They are not going to want him there if he does not want to be there.

However, the issue now becomes does UGa or So. Cal have a scholarship available for him? UGa just signed 33 kids while So Cla only signed 12.

UGA has a spot available. They only played with ~68 scholarship players last year. Include the losses to the draft and graduation, and signing 33 left them with 84 scholarships toward the allotted 85. Also, it looks like one of the 33 won't make the grades and will have to go to prep school.

It'd be nice to get him, but I doubt FSU lets him leave.

If they don't release him

They could be seen as holding the kid hostage and it could possibly tarnish their image a bit in the eyes of future recruits. Besides why would you want a kid that doesn't want to be at your school?

Holding him hostage?

He's free to go wherever he'd like. He's free to accept an offer to g to whatever school suits him.

He just loses a year of eligibility and has to sit out based on a contract he willingly signed.

It's really quite simple.

Yeah I agree. I was just stating that some ppl might view it as such. But he is not enrolled in school so he doesn't have to necessarily to sit out if they voluntarily release him bc he isn't enrolled in school yet. He could also just transfer to a juco and redshirt and then transfer wherever he likes with 4 years to play 4.

Indeed.

He has a number of options and thus is not at all being held hostage.

I just don't weep for the kid and think any one who is is missing the point that he said he'd do something and now wants not to do it. For that, there are consequences, and they are far from life harming.

Yeah the only reason I used the word hostage was bc if they don't release him then he will lose a year of eligibility and thus some ppl, not me, could could see that as being unreasonable. Personally I think they will release him and he will end up at USCw.

Does FSU open a can of worms if they release him?

May 7, 2013, 11:15 AM

Signing Day is a big deal for these kids; a 5 star like him has been recruited for 2 years, so there is no way he can say he rushed into his decision.

If FSU lets him go now, for no reason other than he changed his mind, what does that do to the rest of us? Signing Day is when those commitments on put down on paper and become solid. I hope FSU makes this kid stick with it. If they can't convince him he made the right choice initially, he's going to be a lost scholly for this year anyway. Make him sit and watch.

Hard to say.

If it is considered a transfer, then yes. But, he hasn't started the summer semester yet. Is it still a transfer if he hasn't taken any classes? Not sure about that one.

If he has not attended any classes then the NCAA will allow him to transfer with-out missing a year
LOI does not make him a student going to class does
