Does Clemson have any chance of beating Georgia?

I like our chances, but I also know Aaron Murray is the best at picking apart the secondary, which we are very weak in. Now Tajh is a great QB too, and their defense is not supposed to be that good. But I remember last year our offence took a few games to find its groove. We struggled against Auburn, who was terrible, and we had a hard time putting up points against Furman in the first half, and never really did blow them away. Georgia tends to get off to slow starts too. But I am concerned that if our offense does not score a lot of points, our defense may have its back against the wall. I am just worried because I want to beat them so bad, and cannot stomach losing to Georgia.

the new practice, helmet condoms will be our ultimate undoing.
there is very little from the beginning of last year that is the same this year. even with the loss of some frontliners we are much deeper in experience along the oline & d front 7.
taking nothing away from a great, talent rich georgia team, i like cu's chances.

You could if, but and guess this thing to death as who is to say we get a beautiful sunny SC day. You get a rainy mudder game that neutralizes QBs. Can't wait to watch it.

If that is the case, it will be a shootout. UGA will put up points. I think I heard they have 9 starters returning on offense and 3 of those are dangerous players.

We have some significant new or reassigned D talent...

...and little doubt about the offense's ability to produce.
Plus Morris and Venables are just getting talent they wanted into their ranks.
So every chance we actually make the odds or better - we are favored by nearly every betting odds maker. The highest I've seen is less than 3 point favorites. But it is still in our favor.

be huge. I would be much more nervous if this were in Athens, but I think the Valley, crowd drowning out all the Georgia fans that will have bought tickets in the lower deck from Tiger fans covering IPTAY dues, and most importantly, the talent on the field we have assembled will create a perfect storm of awesomeness and victory. I'm almost feeling cajoney enough to call it as having the same vibe as C.J.'s freshman year against GT and James Davis running all over them, too. Go Tigers!

Ironcat - Hope you don't mind the opinion of a Georgia fan .. But yes, a real chance. (Something tells me you may have been being a little tongue & cheek with you use of the word "any".)
Don't shoot me with my first statement ... give me a chance.
I give advantage on the offensive side of the ball to Georgia (however slight it may be) ... only because we lost only one starter, gained one back from injury in the same position and a balanced attack, not only run vs pass, but use of running backs and TEs (blockers and receivers). OL is a draw until you get 2 deep. I believe Georgia wins that ... by no way does Clemson "lose" ... I honestly think we will keep 3 and outs to a minimum and time of position, may fall Clemson's way, but our O is not a 3 and out offense.
Defense has to go to Clemson, not because you are returning a stellar defense, but they now have more experience and depth. Georgia lost a ton of talent. That is only part of the equation (who are you gaining is the another "part"). We will be young but talented at LB .. D backs ... we will be young ... even having to depend on an early enrollee due to a suspension at a very key position. Clemson will also be young at D back. Alexander is a tremendous talent and game changer once he gets his legs underneath him ... needless to ramble ... Georgia has more question marks to begin the season.
Special team ... Clemson
Home field advantage ... BIG BIG BIG ... that's all I can say.
Georgia's key to the game will be how the offense can operate in DV. We can't answer that now. Experience, past experiences ... The other part will be how the defense pulls together. I tell you, we had talent last year, but they never gelled as a team. Tough order to pull that together in game in ... in DV ... in a huge game. I will say this. I think our D will be much better than a large number of folks think ... will it be enough ... tough order.
I do expect a shoot out which is not customary in week one. Just too many factors are in order for that not to happen. I am not a betting man, I never predict a win or a loss ... All I know is my family will not want to be anywhere near me during this game ( it can get ugly on my part) and I hope ... and only hope I am happier than my "old" (yes old) college roommate is when I go to bed that night.
I am wishing my life away ... EPIC game to start the season.

On paper uga has advantage over us and usc but being in death valley and usc owning them right now, uga may be 0-2

Oddsmakers disagree about the 'on paper' view
Aug 3, 2013, 3:48 PM

All they look at are stats "on paper", and out of the 3 I follow none has UGA favored. The spread is small, but it still favors Clemson. The over/under is pretty high - almost 70 - so both defenses are considered weak compared to both offenses.

D-line won't give Murray a chance to even throw. So no worries there.

Better than even, Georgia has the best quarterback in the SEC but since Clemson cut the cheese my moneys on the Clemson defense.
