more money to spend on basketball, but other that that, and the fact that they are a basketball school and we are a football school, Clemson is the more attractive job

I have no idea why he left seeing as how I don’t have a personal relationship with him. I think anything any of us say is pure speculation. There probably his some truth to not wanting to play second fiddle to football, and probably baseball for that matter. I was never a fan of OP’s style of play because it didn’t lend it self to tournament runs, but his teams were fun to watch, competitive, and played hard.

Purnell didn't even give Clemson an opportunity to match the offer. In fact, Terry Don Phillips was surprised that Purnell left and had no knowledge that it was happening until Purnell told him he was leaving.
