When Usuck left the ACC and became an Independent? Was there any conversation about Clemson leaving with them? (a secret deal between the two). I heard yesterday on the radio (Florence channel with Gamecock host) that it was rumored there was and that Clemson backed out after Usuck left. I have never heard of it but just wanted to see if anyone had. Thanks & Go Tigers!

Don’t remember the year but the rumor was that the basketball coach, Frank McGuire wanted out. He was tired of the NC bias and wanted an opportunity to get in the basketball play offs. Back then only the conference champion got in.

I have heard the story that Clemson had agreed to follow the coots and drop out of the ACC. Usually the story comes from coots.

IF this actually happened. It's got to be the greatest rivalry story in the history of sports. Ownership not only on the field of play, but ownership throughout the entire athletic departments.
