do y'all ever watch TV shows/movies w/closed captioning on?

I have started doing it, but not for the most obvious reason.
Yeah, I can't hear like I use to could due to going to 1000 loud rock concerts over the years. That's solved easy enough with a bit higher volume.
But what I have found out that on shows that have great soundtracks (Yellowstone, The Old Man, for example), the song and artist are displayed on the closed caption when the song starts (plus lyrics sometimes). So if a good song starts up in the background, you can actually see what it is instead of it driving you crazy wondering what that excellent tune was.
Also, buried background sound effects pop up that you probably wouldn't ordinarily hear (a police radio call, a phone buzz, a faraway animal sound). Helps understand a scene better sometimes.
You should give it a try, just to see.

for sure. I cannot understand those accents.
We watch a lot of Britbox and Acorn TV - good shows.

Yes, I also can't hear but often the actors "accents" are hard to understand too or they talk to soft.

I used to never do it but I've fallen into the habit, particularly with movies. I do like it cause I catch a lot of dialogue I might have missed or glossed over because of on screen visual distractions, etc.

On that note, usually anything with Tom Hardy requires closed captioning for me.

sports. Got a constant ringing in my ears from my Army days and having the subtitles just makes it to where I don't have to blast the volume so high that the wife and pets go running for cover.

Yes, blame young kids and British TV sound
Jul 6, 2022, 8:35 PM
|
|
Wait, what?
Wifeof- and I would sit and watch TV after the kids went to bed, but their doors would be open so we could hear them if they woke up. We didn't want the TV to keep them up or to wake them up, so it would be audible, but sometimes mumble-y. So...closed captions.
Add to that complication the British shows that the audio flow is "mumble, mumble, LOUD AMBIENT NOISE AND SPECIAL EFFECTS, mumble mumble..." If you turn it up to hear the actors talking, you're at rock concert levels when the effects hit. So...closed captions and a reasonable max volume.
And that's just stuck.
