Do ya think “the media” is one of our biggest problems ?

Nov 19, 2021, 11:17 AM

This post by Blair McCauley Merkli , is spot on. “The Media” is one of the biggest problems in this Country.

I have watched the whole Rittenhouse case. The Jury is in deliberation now.
I didn't know that Kyle put out a dumpster fire that was being rolled down to a gas station to blow up, with people all around.
I didn't know that the Police were told to stand down as businesses were destroyed.
I didn't know that Kyles Dad, Grandma and Friends all lived in Kenosha, 20 minutes from where he resided with his Mom part time in Illinois.
I didn't know that Joseph Rosenbaum knocked him down twice and then attempted to kick him with lethal force to the head. I didn't know that Huber had hit him in the head 2x with a skateboard.
I didn't know Gaige Grosskreutz, a felon in possession of firearm, aimed his gun at Kyle first, as he admitted on the stand.
I also didn't know that in the State of Wisconsin, it is legal for Kyle to have a gun, even at 17 (which was why the gun charge was dismissed).
I didn't know that Kyle did not cross state lines with a gun he wasn't supposed to have. The rightful gun owner did, as he was legally permitted to do.

I also didn't realize that Rosenbaum was a 5 time convicted child rapist and that Huber was a 2 time convicted woman beater. I didn't know that Grosskreutz was a convicted Burglar with an assault on his record also.

IF THE MEDIA DID THEIR JOB... we would ALL have known this!

Time more men stood up and the judicial system do their ####### jobs!

Well, my opinion on "the media" need not be rehashed here.

Nov 19, 2021, 11:35 AM

I was curious why I kept hearing about him "crossing state lines" as if that were relevant?

I did Google "Rittenhouse victims" and found this CNN article. I would say it's very sympathetic to the three that were shot (which is fine...I'm not sure that their past is relevant and two of them are deceased), but it does mention that Rosenbaum "had spent more than a decade in prison in Arizona after being convicted of sexual conduct with a minor."

Is media the problem, or does it reflect what we have become? As corrupt as the media clearly is, I would like to think it's the former: we can change that. If it's the latter, we're the problem. We might be, and this case is an example.

In our original culture, every criminal trial is a display of several values:
- Truth is external to mankind, a thing to be observed, not created ideologically.
- The individual therefore becomes the highest point of creation, with the right to perceive and live truth.
- Govt therefore has a primary role of protecting us from outside forces, and from each other.
- We therefore have to be protected from any Govt that has that kind of power.

All those have to be enforced at the same time. One backdrop to this trial is that govt intentionally failed in its protection duty during the entire blm season of riots. When that happens other worse things happen. And here we are.

But as to this trial, we are protected from Kyle, and Kyle is protected from the Govt, by one simple value: The jury does not issue a verdict based on what it thinks likely happened: it issues a verdict based on what the Govt can prove happened. Those two things can be, and should be, different. Merge the two, and horrible things will happen.

That is what the media is actively doing. They are imposing on us a definition of truth based on their ideology. Their view of guilt/innocence does not include any of the above values, but is determined only by their ideology - to the degree that NBC will send a reporter to chase down jurors to influence their votes - and they are getting us to believe their view of truth. Media is not just a 'biggest problem', they are antithetical to the truth entrusted to us. But are they that because we are? Either way, if it continues we can't survive that change in what truth is.

It's a business that caters to its consumers

Nov 19, 2021, 11:52 AM

So yes, it reflects what he have become. That doesn't mean it's right, but to make money, sadly, that's what it is.

Benjamin Day figured that out long ago.

And people (those consumers) who don't realize that they

Nov 19, 2021, 12:52 PM

are just being catered to are ultimately the problem. None of us can make reasonable, objective judgements when we are only given part of the truth, or a very one-sided, biased interpretation and presentation of events. Yet, that's what most Americans get, and most of those don't realize that's all they are getting. The media certainly bears some of that responsibility, but we as consumers who gobble it up are ultimately responsible.

You didn't ask me a question.

And I can't comment on the biased NYT because I'm not an avid reader of their articles?

So I guess you tune into Fox News and other "right wing" media outlets? You certainly cry about them weekly.

Nov 19, 2021, 12:03 PM

idea you are expressing.

To be an enemy, one has to know he is that. He might be just ignorant. The far left in media think they want to 'make a better country', but they have abandoned, or never really knew, what that means. They seem to think 'better country' means, "everything is the way I think it ought to be". In that view, all means are good, and anything and everything can be sacrificed for the pursuit of one's personal view of utopia. What the guy next to you thinks of that, or even his right to pursue his own, is irrelevant.

Is that an enemy, or just a virus doing it's thing?

Don't forget that these criminals started rioting because the media reported that Jacob Blake broke up a fight and then the police shot him in the back.

The true story wasn't even close to that and it was a justified shooting.

Nov 19, 2021, 12:42 PM

But Rittenhouse also delivered 3 babies that night, saved an old lady from a burning building, and the 3 guys that he killed were all gamecock fans. Most of you did not know this because the lamestream media did not report on it.

Biased media is a major problem.

Nov 19, 2021, 1:22 PM

But probably even bigger, is the fact that most people will only acknowledge "the other side" being biased. Take your example. Without saying it, the implication is that the problem is with liberal media, when in fact, it happens on both sides and in both directions. It's easy to ignore the stuff that aligns with our prejudices. Confirmation bias, as they call it.

Nov 19, 2021, 3:26 PM

I do think the major “news” media are mostly far off from what their roles would be ideally. I think their overall charter/motive is often contrary to what is good for the country. Specifically, the biggest problem is that they profit from pitting people against each other.

However, the key word there is “profit,” and that the reason I don’t think they are the root cause. The reason they profit is because it’s what we want. If it wasn’t what we want, they would go out of business doing that, and they’d change their model. Any look at a social media feed or message board, or sometimes even a family dinner table, will show that we crave and enjoy the bias, the division, the team sport mentality.
