Chip might figure it is worth it to have DJ as a backup to get a 5-star defensive lineman.
If he makes DJ the starter then the trade-off is not worth it.

That statement "Matayo is also a music producer" would worry the crap out of me if I was a coach.
Concentrating on football and school is hard enough; adding NIL dollars plus the LA music scene...good luck with that. I feel confident saying that isn't likely to go well...for anybody.

as disappointed as we fans have been with him, I imagine he's been even more disappointed with himself. This was a 5-star QB, heavily recruited, who started out in 2020 looking so good when he backed up Trevor, then just basically tanked in 2021. He looked pretty good - not great - at the beginning of this year, but has steadily declined. I think he sees the writing on the wall.
I'd like to think that I speak for all Clemson fans and alum that we do NOT dislike DJ himself. He seems like a great kid and one who has endured a lot. But he's just not a good fit for Clemson at this time and, for whatever reasons, has not been able to live up to the expectations everyone had for him. It sucks, but that's life.
I don't know that he'll come out of this a better quarterback, but I'd like to think, and I hope, that he'll come out of it a better person, and I hope we can all be respectful of him and appreciative of the commitment he made to Clemson, even if it didn't pan out like anyone had hoped/expected.

Class post. I genuinely wish him well. Sometimes in life, moving on is absolutely the right thing to do. Tough to know in the moment sometimes. I’d love nothing more to see him go out on a couple nice wins and well played games.

The kid has done nothing but show up and try his best. He’s got some skills and some issues and in my opinion has shown the world who he is and always will be. When things go right, hes as good as anyone, but when they dont, he doesnt have the skillset to just ride it in safely and manage the game. He’s prone to go blank and just try things. He lost it mentally when his dad left his mom and briefly considered leaving competitive sports altogether. I don’t think anyone can fault him for trying. Dabo and the staff didnt handle him correctly I think.

I agree 100%. The kids gave his all and represented Clemson with class. I’m more disappointed Clemson didn’t do a better job developing him but it is what it is. I honestly hope he transfers out west and if it’s Chip Kelly turn him into the potential he had and he gets drafted. Also gives us a chance to move on which is sorely needed next year. Win win and hopefully it works out best for both if true.

Impossible. Mike Leach is an offensive Guru with a high bar for QB'S that can read the field run a very sophisticated passing attack. Leach would rather run a wishbone than have DJ standing like a deer in headlights staring at his first read.

December then heading back to the home area for more. UCLA and Chip Kelly make for a good pair in that regard. He hasn't exactly been the most welcome guy by the fan base since he stopped performing as well. Not as much to look forward to there really. His mates and peers love him a lot though so I'm sure the experience will have been well worth it.

Honestly, I think the change would be good for him. He is by all accounts a great young man and I too will pull for him anywhere he wants to go. A fresh start may be just what he needs to reach his potential. That said, I wonder if there is any validity at all to that report. I tend to think not.

Come on guys. This is the oldest trick in the book by UCLA. They will gladly welcome DJ in order to gain a commitment from his brother. I lost count of how many commitments Clemson took in order to get Robert Nkemdiche. The old two scholarships to get one player is just about the oldest game in town in recruiting. Been done a million times and this will be one more case. DJ is not an FBS QB. He might get some token mop up just to keep the family happy - nothing more.

I didn't even know he had a brother until reading this. It will be a two for one and provide an exit strategy for DJ. I was petrified that he would somehow remain. Absolutely going wherever his brother goes - done deal and great for all concerned.

No, never. TL has been clocked at 66 MPH. Mahomes was at 61. Never seen a number for DJ but it's irrelevant. TL has a one second release. You measure DJ with a sun dial on his windmill wind up. Glad you mentioned TL. Had his best game as a pro this past weekend. Velocity and accuracy were off the charts. A couple more like this and all the comparisons to Fields and Zach Wilson can be tossed out the window. Barring injury, he's going to be mentioned in the same sentence with the top arms of all time. DJ will be in a different group. It happens.

Heard control was in issue. Trouble finding the strike zone. JK No idea. His 5 second wind up is a non issue. You can't teach 95 MPH so it's definitely the only possibility for pro sports. Now that's worth a late round draft pick as a project.

Even if DJ plays QB or tries to play QB at UCLA, it's a totally different world with the fans in Southern California. It's not as intense as it is here in the football crazy Southland. I think he will be just fine wherever he lands.
