I watched DJ HS tape last night

DJ looked a heck of a lot faster in running the ball in HS and he ran a similar spread type of offense.
He seemed to slow down this year.
He may not be a true dual threat but he can run the dang ball.
Don’t know where this Pro style QB stuff comes from.

His high school tape is insane, he looks nothing like that now. He would actually roll outside of the pocket and was pretty quick with decisions which is how he took the starting spot as a freshman. Idk if it’s the pressure or what’s going on now but seems to be lost in his head the talent is absolutely there

I suspect,without knowing,that the opposition he is facing today is a tad better than what he saw in high school.
The QB at Mater Dei out performed DJ in the championship games. I think that kid is the starter at Bama!
Did you notice the play of Collins in those games?

Bad coaching, and bad schemes. For the life of me I do not know why we run an RPO which by design puts our relatively smaller and less experience offensive linemen back on their heels, as opposed to a true pro-style, play action offense in which the line is firing downhill. Elliott (and perhaps Dabo) give up on the run way too early which allows the defense to just sit back and wait.

His HS/HS league is about as advanced as they come as far as HS goes ---so he couldn't be prepped any better IMO.
Beside the obvious issues with OL, WR dropping balls, family stuff...I'd love to see DJ work with a QB guru (Palmer, etc...) this offseason to really work on his footwork, decision making, etc....I think that would really do him some good. I also think he needs to lose 15-20 pounds. He's not fat at all....wonderfully conditioned athlete and all muscle...but slimming down would improve his quickness IMO.

Whether it's muscle from college workouts or a little more fat, it is definitely affecting his speed. He looks slowwwwwww.
He even seemed faster last year.

Them Bojangles biscuits put some pounds on ole DJ. He probably gets freebees for his homies too. Everyone thinks he wears a flak jacket, that's a Bo jacket.

Nice observation, it looks to me like he's playing to not make a mistake. You have to play with the mind of an assassin. DW4 did it, TL did it. Taj did it most of the time.
