Setting up Satellite for Tailgate??

Hey guys. Been tailgating since graduating in '95, and I never thought I would want/need TV/Satellite for gameday. Well - kids and wife have overruled me as our tailgates have grown through the years.
Any setups that are better/worse? Any specifics for getting started would be appreciated...

I use Directv box with a king dish. Works. Just get faced is TG right direction and it will find the satellite without adjustment. Started out with a pole mounted Directv dish and you have to have it dialed in with exact azimuth.

I’ve had sat tv at CU tailgates for years. I’ve had the King/Tailgater (King makes both). These sat dishes only find western satellites. Due to trees and weather in Clemson, western satellites aren’t always detected. If you don’t have a clear view of the Western horizon from your tailgate spot good luck. I’ve parked on heavily shaded Shotgun Alley for about 15 years. Depending on the time of year the Western Satellites aren’t always available. What if you have good reception and change tailgating spots? Buy the Winegard x-2 which I believe work with Dish Network or DirectTV (I have Dish Network). The Winegard receiver can find Eastern and Western horizon satellites. When I bought the Winegard all my reception problems were solved. It’s worked on clear days, cloudy days, and tropical storms. I will add that I bought my Winegard about 3 years ago to replace my Tailgater. King/Tailgater could have improved technology since then to detect Eastern satellites. I don’t know. I just got tired of calling King service to get problems corrected. I haven’t called service since initial installation of the Winegard.

They have automatic and manual version of the dish.
Dish will be HD
Direct tv will be SD

Satalite dishes that pick up HD programming.
And they have a pay as you go option.
If you want HD for direct tv you will have to get one of their giant slim dishes , a tripod, and find the signal yourself. The 1st time is a bit challenging..but once you get it, the next setup is easier.
I can usually get 98% single in 5 minutes now.
You can buy automatic dishes but they will only pick up the SD satellite.
They do make a self finding HD dish but it isn't exactly portable and it costs like $1500.

The whole system (dish, receiver and cables) was in the $400 range. Not very big and super simple to transport and set-up. The service through Dish can be activated and deactivated at the beginning and end of each season so you're not paying for something all year that you aren't using. The service runs about $75.00 per month and includes all local channels in addition to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, the ACC Network, and the SEC Network. We power the system with a Honda generator but there are less expensive generator options available (like Ryobi). You can also use a deep cycle marine battery if you don't want to mess with gas. If you go that route, you'll also need a power inverter that converts battery power to AC household power. It all connects to a 46" LG television. Since you're using it outdoors, I'd suggest that you consider a television with the built-in anti glare technology but that's not a must or absolutely necessary. The initial investment is a little painful, particularly if you're buying everything new so shop around on places like eBay and Facebook Marketplace. There are other less expensive alternatives particularly if you already have service at home through Dish or Direct.
