Food for thought.

How great would it be if Dabo would hire Frank Beamer to come in for Spring and Fall camp and hold a special teams seminar? Our special teams coverage was the weakest link on our football team. It cost us the coveted trophy. We won 2 of 3 phases of the game but the one we lost cost on the final score board. I know FB wouldn't take a special teams coordinator position Bc he probably wants to enjoy his retirement but I bet he would come give us some insight on how we could improve. If we had a solid special teams to go with our sick offense and vicious D, we will win the Natty. PS.. I still hate the gamecocks with every beat of my heart! Go Tigers! #ALLIN

how So?

Coaches visit others schools all the time? We visited OK state to learn how to use Sammy like they used Justin Blackmon and we went to Nevada to learn the nuances of the pistol formation. So why is bringing in a special teams guru look bad?

Beamer's STs were nothing special his last few years. If we bring in help it should be someone cutting edge.

over the last few years was directly correlated to bad recruiting. Strictly as a ST consultant, he would be great for us imo

I agree. Don't care who it is, don't care how it looks, get someone that has produced bonafide results on special teams. Beamer just happens to be the first guy that comes to mind.

Honestly, I don't know if Beamer is the special teams guru

anymore. VT has not been returning kickoffs and punts and blocking kicks near to the caliber that they did in their heyday. It seemed that was part of the decline of the Frank Beamer era. VT eventually became known for offensive ineptitude by the time he retired.

I think he still has the mind for it. yeah his team's weren't very good but it came from lack of players ability I believe. Sometimes a coach can be in a place for too long and lose an edge. Like Bobby Bowden, Steve Spurrier and even Joe Paterno. Frank Beamer won a lot of ball games. He didn't forget how to coach. But I'm not saying bring him in as a coordinator. Just a consultant during the offseason. How many teams used to go to Beamer for his ST clinics?

I've seen this idea a dozen times

A few problems, in list form:
1. VT is in the ACC. VT fans would be pissed if he were going to help other schools within the conference. His loyalty is to VT before other schools.
2. Beamer coming in for a few days isn't going to magically fix our coverage teams. They need good coaches who will come up with game plans and tweak those plans for different teams. It would be like George Whitfield going to Scar for 3 days. Their QBs would still be garbage.
3. Our coaches don't have the best relationship with Beamer. He accused us of stealing signals in the ACCCG. He may not want to turn around and help us out.
