IMO it’s parents with this attitude is what will bring major

Mar 13, 2022, 10:50 PM

IMO negative changes to college athletics. Loyalty, Character, Integrity and Honesty will be rare words from recruit’s. This seems to open the door for more dirty recruiting than ever before.

“Big Dave was very blunt in his response, which you can see below, indicating that his choice would be a “business decision” not determined by which school he likes the most but rather based on the amount of name, image and likeness money being offered.“

LSU’s football and basketball programs are under investigation by the useless NCAA for major recruiting violations involving the exchange of money.

How much longer to you think Dabo will stay in coaching with all of these changes enabling players. ???

I am really going to miss college football!

Is that any different than parents who steer their kids to do certain majors

Mar 13, 2022, 10:55 PM

Because they believe it will be a “real career” or better money?

If players are going to make enough NIL then maybe it’s time to evaluate weather scholarships are outdated??

Why should regular students who also bring outside money to Clemson have to go into $50,000 to $100,000 in loans debt to obtain an education and athletes are not only getting a full ride while make NIL. Some players who will make over a million dollars.

I think they should have to pay their own way through college. Some fans complained about Clemson coach’s kids getting scholarships when the coaches were making a lot in salary. Plenty to cover their kids tuition.

There will be very college athletes that make $100,000 off NIL. I think Clemson has 19 sports and we have fewer than most big schools and my guess is less than 2% will make more than $10,000 from NIL. There will never be changes in scholarships because of numbers.

Big Baller Dave

Pretty obvious…

That Big Dave and Big Dabo are diametrically opposed in their approaches to coaching DJ….proof was in the pudding last year.

Blah blah blah short term money and whatnot. Bottom line is you still have to have coaching and player development to have successful careers in pro ball. Coach Swinney will be in coaching for a long long time because of that alone. And besides how is the current situation and different from players going to little know schools and being successful in the NFL because the coach they went to play for was good at developing talent. NIL certainly changes things some but not on the level you are describing

Disagree

Mar 14, 2022, 9:15 AM

NIL, as it is, is a total game changer. Just reread Big Dave’s comment and understand that NIL money will lead recruits to where the biggest immediate money is. The rich will get dramatically richer. This is all wrong, as it teaches kids that short term money is the most important thing AND that’s their NAME, IMAGE, and LIKENESS are more important than talent, leadership, character, and long term success.
Hopefully someone will come up with something more balanced. As is, we are in trouble IMO.

I'm not a fan of NIL, probably for the same reasons you don't think it's a good idea. It leads to what we're seeing - schools outbidding one another for players. What I don't undertand, is how you equate a player taking money for his image with a lack of honesty, character, or integrity. You may not like it, but if it's legal, is isn't dishonest.

Not sure if you were addressing those comments to me? I said nothing about honest or integrity, nor do I think the recruits are doing anything I probably wouldn’t have done ( mind you, my NIL value would have been Zero). It’s just temping them, and their parents and advisers, to place more importance on a short term gain for reasons that do not relate to what life is all about.

There is nothing dirty about the business of NIL. NIL has changed college athletics and until it is tweaked, you have to accept it is what it is.

Big Dave didn't say he's in favor of this

Mar 14, 2022, 10:32 AM

He's just pointing out what the current environment is for high school recruits. At least that's how I read it.

"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard
