I was referring to the normal fossils that are examined. Maybe they start out smaller then the process of fossilization changes their size.
I know this isn't "muh science" (the accepted orthodoxy) and there's really no way to test it, but it would be funny if we eventually learn that they actually weren't gigantic after all.

that allowed these birds to become gigantic, which would completely undermine the entire plot of Jurrasic Park. The TRex would have just eventually collapsed under its weight and suffocated like a beached whale.
