Different Animal group terms. I had never heard of most of

these. Just some fun edumucation on a Friday morning. Take notes, NFL teams with these mascots. From "Principles of English Usage" by Joseph Suglia.

My thoughts on some of these in parentheses.

An obstinance of buffalo. (A buffalo is big enough to be obstinant if he wants, I guess.)
A romp of otters
A murder of crows (If you have ever had to listen to crows very long, you want to murder them, all right.)
A whisker of shrews
A crash of rhinoceroses (Some of these names are descriptive!)
A clowder of cats (I have never, ever heard a gathering of cats called a clowder.)
A conspiracy of lemurs (Another name for Congressional Lobbyists?)
A mischief of mice
A pod of walruses (I thought that was peas?)
A leash (or warren) of rabbit
A pack, a swarm, a colony of rats (Hmmm, seems like rats can't make up their minds.)
A parliament of owls (Does sound like Merry Olde England.)
A cling of koalas
A congregation of alligators (Baptists at Hooters on a Friday night?)
A shrewdness (or troop) of apes
A raft (in the water) of penguins or a waddle (on land) of penguins
A coalition of cheetahs (Another term for the SEC.)
An intrusion of cockroaches (They been intruding since the dawn of time, seems like.)
A mob of kangaroos
A congress of salamanders (Congress, LOL!)
A zeal, herd, or dazzle of zebra (They do look dazzling in the bright sunlight.)
A scurry of squirrels (Again, descriptive.)
A cluster of spiders (Leave them be.)
A bed of scorpions (REALLY leave them be.)
A run of salmon
A covey of quails (One of the few I would have knownst.)
A prickle of porcupines (Makes perfect sense.)
A drift (or drove) of pigs (You DON't want to be downwind and have their scent....drift to you.)
A watch of nightingales
A bloat of hippopotami (This one seems obvious to me!)
An embarrassment of pandas (Why are they embarrassed?)
A suicide of lemmings (Because they run off cliffs?)
A worship of writers (Not me, I only worship the Lord Jesus.)

I R Retired, so yes, all my time is "discretionary" time. I have always been fascinated by our English language, though. So many rules, except when there aren't. :)

A "cover" or "raft" of coots.

Or you also call them a work-release program.

Darn that TNet obscenity filter of technical and academic terms.

Yeah, a Cluster*fowl* of coots is also acceptable.
