Difference between SEC and ACC. SEC folks are so protective

Dec 26, 2014, 7:37 PM

of being the best that they actually pull for their rivals. I love seeing UNC getting their ### beat tonight. Do not the mighty ESPN minor league realize that the better their conference teams do, the more competetive they are to recruit against?

Whatever!

ACC teams that I hate in football

Dec 26, 2014, 7:54 PM

FSU, FSU, FSU, UNC, Ga Tech, NC St., 'Cuse (because their coach is a peckerhead), Louisville (I hate Petrino for what he did to the Falcons), Maryland (ok, I know they're not in the conference any more but I still hate them), USuC (see Maryland), Miami, Va Tech (because of their fans), UVA (because they beat us a couple of times)
Teams that I don't care about - BC, Pitt
Teams that I feel sorry for- Wake Forest
Teams that I respect - Duke
Teams that I pull for - Clemson, whoever is playing USuC

I can't hate Duke because I totally respect Coach Cuttcliffe. I have always been treated kind by Wake Forest when we've travelled there bou other than than, I pull for no one in the ACC. I personally wish we were able to switch conferences. One not run by Swofford that shows favorites.

Not going to pull for the Heels. Want them to lose every

athletic event they play in. But will pull for all the other ACC teams. Why would I want Oregon GA etc to win over an ACC team? I think that the coots pulling for the SEC and Clemson fans making fun of them has got a lot of fans paranoid to say anything positive about other ACC schools. We get more money for Clemson when the ACC teams play in better bowls, advance further in the NCAA basketball championships, etc. ACC does better, Clemson benefits and that is reason enough. But to each his own.

I wouldn't go so far as to say you never hear of Bama fans wanting auburn to win. I live in the heart of SEC country (aka Alabama) and I hear plenty of them that want Auburn to win bowl games just to show how strong their mighty SEC is. Although I have to say they are not the worst. This years it's been the Mississippi State fans. They schedule 4 wins OOC, then play the only two SEC schools from the east that didn't go to a bowl, and lose to the only teams that finish with less than 4 losses. Then they talk about how tuff there schedule is and how they don't have to play tough OOC games because they play in the SEC. It real annoying.

With that said I use to never root for any other ACC team, but these SEC fans have worn me down. Now I want every ACC team to win there bowl game just to shut them up.

The best recruits want to play against the best teams

Dec 26, 2014, 8:01 PM

Our coaches have to work hard to sell Clemson as a good place to play and a good path to the NFL over the self selling competitiveness of the SEC.

"Screw the conference and just win" doesn't really work. Ask TCU and Baylor.

What you or I "buy" is irrelevant.

Dec 27, 2014, 8:50 AM

We're dyed in the wool Tigers.

The kids we recruit are mostly clean slates as far as loyalties go. Top recruits are looking for 1) the best path to the NFL and 2)the best environment to play their college ball. Our staff has done a great job of convincing 80% of them that Clemson is the right place to achieve both goals.

Opposing recruiters tell them that the SEC is the place to showcase their next level skills against the toughest teams in the land and that the ACC is an "inferior" conference - a pretender to Power 5 status. Montravius Adams, Carl Lawson, Todd Gurley, Nick Marshall, Demarcus Robinson and Marquez North come to mind as guys who loved Clemson but bought the SEC hype in the end.

And then there's the fact that FSU went from #1 to #4 while going undefeated against their entire schedule.

You don't actually have to like or pull for other ACC teams. Just don't imagine that their failures have no effect on Clemson. To accomplish all the things we want to accomplish, we need to be perceived as playing against the best.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!if the other aCC look like they are weak then we look weak also..perception is most important in the eyes of the voters!!so pull against other ACC teams if U wish but when U do that U are in fact pulling against Clemson!!U might not like this but it is absolutely true!

Dec 27, 2014, 9:00 PM [ in reply to What you or I "buy" is irrelevant. ]

Agreed, very well put. The better the conference, the better individual winning schools look. FSU is a perfect example of perception. The fact that they are the reigning national champions who went undefeated in the ACC landed them at 3rd best in the rankings, behind 2 teams with 1 loss each from perceived "better" conferences. Perception is everyting.
