We have a great defense but even the best defenses wear down if the offense doesn’t give them a break.

We should have run the clock on every possession to give our defense a chance to stay fresh?

Guys are tired, trying to make plays, and getting hurt as a result. If you're on the field for nearly 100 defensive plays (96 on Saturday) the short answer is yes.

We had 8 straight 3 and outs at one point in the game. Can't emphasize enough how demoralizing and tiring that is for a defense.

The offense was bad, but the defense brought a lot of it on

themselves with about 6 offsides penalties and at least one personal foul which kept them on the field far too long. If each penalty eventually leads to a first down and another 4 downs, that's another 28 plays on 7 penalties that the defense stays on the field.
