Did some digging on margin of victory, SOS, and recruiting…

Since some silly trolls think we couldn’t compete in the mighty SEC, and bc our 2020 results are indicative of where our program stands…
If the SEC is so superior to the ACC, why does Bama have a higher margin of victory against a tougher schedule, even in years that we beat them or played them close in the Natty??
How can the SEC be so superior, yet their teams are blown out by Alabama — and *sometimes* UGA?? You’d think they’d at least have some competition every now and then.
I singled out Bama and UGA bc, let’s be honest - only they and perhaps Ohio State are in the same stratosphere as Clemson football when healthy. Maybe Oklahoma if they ever win a playoff game.
AVG margin of victory (nat’l rank) [only listed top-ten SEC teams]
2021: +8.6 (29th) (UGA #1; Bama #3) 2020: +21.0 (4th) (Bama #1) 2019: +29.4 (2nd) (Bama #3; LSU #4) 2018: +30.4 (1st) (Bama was #2 in mighty SEC, we beat them by 28; UGA #8) 2017: +16.8 (9th) (Bama #2, we lose by 18 with Kelly Bryant; UGA #5) 2016: +18.5 (8th) (Bama #2, we win by 4) 2015: +16.8 (7th) (Bama #4, we lost by 5) 2014: +9.8 (20th) (Bama #8; UGA #7) 2013: +13.5 (17th) (Bama #3) 2012: +14.7 (9th) (Bama #2; UGA #7)
Oh btw, our average margin of victory vs usc jr. during that stretch - 16.5.
Let’s take it a step further and look at strength of schedule. We know that the SEC gets higher SOS rankings bc they play each other and the media ranks them more highly. It is what it is, BUT…
2021: 11th (UGA #1; Bama #2 - UGA played Clemson + Mich + Bama twice) 2020: 3rd (Bama #2; UGA #4) 2019: 3rd (LSU #2; Bama #7; UGA #8) 2018: 2nd (Bama #1; UGA #3) 2017: 4th (Bama #6; UGA #7) 2016: 3rd (Bama #1; UGA……..#40) 2015: 4th (Bama #1; UGA……..#33) 2014: 29th (Bama #2; UGA #14) 2013: 21st (Bama #7; UGA #10) 2012: 42nd (Bama #1; UGA #15)
How could anyone think we wouldn’t come into the SEC and compete for championships immediately?? We already out-recruit the vast majority of the SEC (247 composite rankings used). Lest we forget that our 2015 and 2016 classes won two national titles with much lower rankings, and our 2016-2019 classes were part of our 29-0 run…..jussayin.
2023: 4th (higher than any SEC team) 2022: 10th (TAMU #1 ??; UGA #2; Bama #3) 2021: 5th (Bama #1; LSU #3; UGA #4) 2020: 3rd (UGA #1; Bama #2) 2019: 10th (Bama, UGA, TAMU, LSU, UF + TEX, OU all ahead) 2018: 7th (UGA #1; TEX #3; Bama #5) 2017: 16th (Bama, UGA, LSU, OU, AUB, UF, TAMU all ahead) 2016: 11th (Bama, LSU, Ole Miss ??, UGA, TEX, AUB ahead) 2015: 9th (Bama, Tenn ??, LSU, UGA, AUB ahead)
