Did Mark Packer Just Say...

That a team would have to pay an astronomical amount to leave the ACC? I'm not even going to repeat the number I thought I heard because that can't be right. So the ACC is safe from losing ANY team. He also agreed with many of us that getting ND to join the conference is the only thing the conference can do.

Here are the facts....

Each Team under the current contract (assuming it would hold up) would owe 30 Million dollars per year over the next 15 years.

If Clemson went to the SEC (I am not advocating, just giving you the numbers) , They would receive 70 Million dollars per year.

With zero mitigation with the ACC, Clemson would NET 40 Million dollars per year, after paying the ACC.

What am I missing?

Maryland negotiated even less exit fees. If Clemson did do that the 40Million net would go up , not down

The problem is the original number 450 million .... do you really think that if we AND FSU tried to bolt that the ACC would negotiate? ... FSU is broke as it is and even if we halved the number it would take almost 6 years of the 40 Million plus we would make on the switch to pay it off ... you think the ACC would negotiate AND finance it?

No, I do not think that the ACC would negotiate. I am saying that it doesn't matter. There is no need to finance it. We are leaving a conference that pays 30 million per year. Once per year. We would be joining a conference paying 70 million per year. Paying the full 30 Million each year , Clemson is left with 40 million.

Clemson is still making 40 Million per year or 10 Million more than they do today. This doesn't even consider that the the loss of say FSU, Clemson (SEC) Ga Tech and UNC (Big 10) creates a domino effect that desolves the league.

And when said conference's members

Are no longer fielding a viable football program, then how much is owed?

Actually...what programs have been consistently viable over the past 10 years?

Thanks, all enlightening comments. The number I heard Packer say was $300 million. Now I see where that number comes from.

How much would we make per year if we stay

Aug 4, 2021, 1:35 PM [ in reply to Here are the facts.... ]

If it's < $40M then it's a net win but I would think it's probably somewhere around $40M.
