Did it ever occur to any of you

Nov 29, 2022, 3:05 PM

That the reason why both:

A) DJ misses throws, Gets sacked, etc.
B) Receivers don’t get open

Is because the passing scheme just isn’t coached well, and that it isn’t prepared well each week?? You can blame players all you want (e.g. DJ/Receivers), or you can blame the ones actually responsible for making everything work. Streeter is not a good offensive coordinator nor a good QB coach.

This was an issue last year too. So you're saying this is the case for elliot as well?

Yes.
Quite often, actually.

It could be:
1) DJ
2) WR talent/performance falloff
3) Stale scheme that defenses have figured out
4) Inexperience at OC/playcalling

And quite likely a few other things I can't think of right now.

But putting in Cade would be at least ONE variable that we could try and account for.
Put Cade in with some prep and if he's 8-29 with a INT... well then we can say for certain that it's not JUST DJ.

I think 3 and 4 are the biggest issues.

Cade's stats YTD are 11/22 98 yards 1 TD 1 INT 15 rushes for 58 yards.

Not bad for his very limited play; started on our 2 yard line w/2 mins to play at GT and backed up at ND. However, we won against Syracuse with him after another bed wetting by DJ. Given equal playing time Cade would run and pass circles around him - that’s why he doesn’t get much time. “Fragility” ..

Yes.......it's all of the above.....

every issue that people mention..........is correct

the % of blame to go around can be debated to no end, but EVERY SINGLE ISSUE that I've seen posted is CORRECT in some capacity..................and it ALL can be traced back to coaching!

Since I've calmed down from the game. I could actually reflect on it. And honestly the biggest issue is DJ and him restricting the offense and coaches being afraid of him as well but the coaching on almost every facet of the offense is bad. Really bad at times. Coaching all over the team leaves a lot to be desired at times as well. I will wait and see what the offense will look like year 2 under Streeter and a different QB to make final judgements on him but he's been in the hot seat for me right now. But I am absolutely sold on Grisham getting sent to pasture at this point. The past 3-4 years we have missed on almost every WR recruit and haven't developed them at all and that cannot be acceptable here at this point.

no matter how good the scheme is, it needs players to execute.

If the scheme is the only factor, a butch of high schoolers can be NC. Does any fans even believe that?

Re: Did it ever occur to any of you

Celica, I agree with the basic premise that players matter. Agree that a team of HS players wouldn’t win the NC with an all time coaching staff.

But consider this… there are offensive minded coaches in college football, Leach, Kiffin, Sark, Kelly, Riley, to name a few, who consistently have offenses, at multiple schools, that flat out score points no matter what players are running them.

Ofc having more talented players helps and matters. By comparison, our scheme seems to require a generational QB like DW or TL to run it well. Or 5 star NFL bound WRs to win jump balls in order for us to take advantage of poor opposition secondaries, most recently USC. That is a coaching and scheme problem. 4 and 5 star players should enhance an already good scheme, not prop it up.

In the chicken/egg conundrum Clemson finds itself in with QB play (which one if fixed first would make the most difference), the coaches should have found versions of our offense that a 5 star QB can run by this point in year 2. The fact they haven’t cannot fall solely on the players, QB, WRs, OL, etc.

Careful. I suspect many would ask that Streeter leave and take DJ with him.

The playcalling of this offense is extremely limited due to subpar QB play.
If it still stinks when Cade is behind center (if he doesn't transfer), then we will have a better understanding of the root of the offensive woes.

Re: Did it ever occur to any of you

Nov 29, 2022, 4:25 PM

Well my problem is hopefully there’s more than one receiver out in a pattern. Find the rucken second or even third guy plus you usually have a dump guy. I don’t know if DJ can scope the field for the other receivers if number 1 not open. Play some one else. It couldn’t be as bad as the starter and it might make him play better but I don’t think so!!!!!!!

Nothing works with DJ, has trouble throwing a tunnel screen, swing pass to the backs, quick outs! The play book has been downsized to help dj and he still has issues...cannot fix what is broken beyond repair...I don't think we can keep DJ and do what we need to do to continue like clemson fans want!
