Deshaun, God got you.

I've been seeing a lot of "Deshaun, God got you." posts and tweets. While these are words of encouragement, it does make you wonder why God would allow this to happen to Deshaun. We don't know why, but believers can take comfort that God's "got us". To illustrate, here is an excerpt of a story my uncle wrote about his dad and my grandfather, who emigrated from the Netherlands after WW II. It's a great story whether you believe in God or not. Get well, Deshaun!

Our large family lived through turbulent and traumatic times in that small country of western Europe (the Netherlands). After the brutality and bloodshed of WW I came the economic hardships of the great depression which prepared the way for the wicked regime of Hitler and the Nazis, who cruelly occupied the Netherlands during WW II. Due to divine protection and intervention, frequently acknowledged, we were shielded from the war’s atrocities, and survived on the produce of the land.

During the Nazi defeat and retreat their fuel supply ran low so they relied on horses from local farmers to transport their equipment. Farmers were ordered to bring their horses to the town square of Winterswijk so the Nazi’s could confiscate them for their own purposes. Dad had a dim view of those proceedings so he thought of a way to save his beloved mare, Drosta. The day before the ordeal he stuck a darning needle into the tendon of one of her legs. Next morning he took a limping mare to town where she was rejected for the service of the enemy! In a few days she was back to normal enjoying the kind care of her master who had inflicted such pain for her good!

I have often thought about how this has a spiritual application. Our Lord may at times, in His kind providence, put us through sickness, pain and adverse circumstances to keep us from falling into the hands of the enemy!
