Depth chart tells it all

Nov 23, 2021, 10:18 AM

No team makes it through 11 games without changes in the Summer Depth Chart and we are at the top of that list. A look at our charts tell the story of our season. Taking out duplications, of the 24 players listed on the Summer Depth Chart there are 11 players on this week's chart not on the Summer list. We started out settled against Georgia, lost players and experience almost every week and lost games we should not have lost. Now we have a somewhat settled lineup, especially at the line and running back positions and we are much better.

On defense, of the 25 players listed on the Summer Depth Chart there are 9 not listed in the Summer. We also lost players on defense during the year and especially in the NC State and Pitt losses, that made a huge difference and we could get a stop when we needed it.

I like where we are now with lineups and our freshmen are now more experienced and we are more like the Clemson teams of the past. Great job by our coaches and training staff for using case after case of tape to keep the team together when there were times it was a challenge just to find enough healthy bodies to field a team.

Tell 'em u6c coot. No one knows losing better than you.

To me it says our players weren’t pushed

Nov 23, 2021, 10:45 AM

Hard enough in camp. If they would have the coaches would have had a better idea of what they had.

It looks like we had no idea. Pure incompetence at WR.

How hard they were pushed in camp...who knows

Nov 23, 2021, 10:53 AM

and how do you really even measure that...wins and losses I guess? We played UGA better than any team so far, so not sure we were unprepared.

Its been a struggle to get to this point but alot of guys have stepped up when their number was called due to attrition and injuries.

The current WRs are actually only playing bc of the injury situation.

How cleanly and consistently they can execute.

Defense seemed fine. Still doing very well.

Offense was not prepared at all. We look like we never practiced against live bodies IMO. We had to take 19 year old Bresee out so we could practice in summer camp. That’s terrible

I hear you WV but B. Collins already looks better than Ladson. So does EJ.

And Swinney getting reps ahead of Ajou is a head scratcher.

TigerDominance® your post makes you sound like a know-it-all.

Can you tell us specifically where the Clemson coaches did not push the WR group hard enough?

Maybe you can explain why the drills that the WRs were doing are not to your liking?

Or perhaps you were with the coaches and WRs while watching "The View."

Gheez.

I don’t really care what you think of me

Nov 23, 2021, 12:26 PM

How about a few areas we could have worked harder.

#1 catching the ball. Way too many drops, especially earlier on. the ball comes hotter off the jugs machine than DJs arm.

#2 blocking. We’re horrible at blocking on the edges. We didn’t work hard enough on this. We have plenty of talented defenders to practice on until we can execute it.

#3 route running. I really hate our boring and predictable routes. We could at least learn to leverage ourselves better to build DJs confidence.

#4 leadership. Not all on the coaches but we have to find our “work ethic guy” (renfrow) and lean on him. This is a different type of development but I think it’s important. Especially in a group that looks so lost. Would i expect a 25 year old kid of a coach to think about this? No. He’s probably drowning as it is.

If you can’t execute a play 7 out of 10 times full tilt in practice you can’t run it in a game.

I don’t care what kind of drills are used if they get results. These results speak for themselves.

Whatever happened to next man up ?

Why shouldn't we have lost to State and Pitt?

Nov 23, 2021, 11:12 AM

Just because we're Clemson and we've been alot better than them for the last decade?

Our offense was largely healthy when it was incompetent early in the season. The defense has been outstanding all season despite injuries.

Largely healthy early in the year?? The o-line was a revolving door because of injuries, Ladson, Ngata, EJW, all in and out (mostly out), Ross admirably trying to play but to be honest probably hurting more than helping at much less than 100%, Galloway out, Will Taylor out, Shipley banged up. Lots of guys there that were expected to start at the beginning of the year. Lots of them still out but freshmen have had a little time to develop and are much more ready to contribute now than early in the season.

rhettfla describes the problem with Clemson's O for much of the year.

Many of the emotional TNetters should read that post and learn something before posting something stupid.

Almost all of those guys played against GT when we scored

Nov 23, 2021, 1:03 PM [ in reply to Re: Why shouldn't we have lost to State and Pitt? ]

14 points and most of them played against State as well in another 14 point performance. Injuries have certainly hurt us this year, but lets not pretend this offense would be great if we were having a more normal number of injuries. It's not like we were humming along for the first few games before all of these injuries began to pile up.

Anyway, my point here wasn't really to trash the offense, i just don't think it's accurate to say we lost games we shouldn't have lost because, based on our level of play this year, we really SHOULD have lost a few games, and i don't think you can simply attribute all of our struggles to injuries and ignore everything else such as Pitt actually being a pretty darn good team.
