Democrats had 50 years and multiple administrations where

Jun 24, 2022, 12:45 PM

they controlled the Presidency, House, and Senate. Why didn't they make abortion legal at the federal level?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

People underestimated the extremism of the Republican Party.

Jun 24, 2022, 12:49 PM

Something tells that is about to change.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No…People underestimated the cruelty of the Republican Party.***

meh..gas at $5/gallon and unaffordable housing will do more

Jun 24, 2022, 12:52 PM [ in reply to People underestimated the extremism of the Republican Party. ]

to run someone out of office than abortion laws.

I mean I know which of those I'm concerned with.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are a white, male, Southern, pro-life Republican

Jun 24, 2022, 2:10 PM

so that doesn't surprise me.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Most of that is right

Jun 24, 2022, 2:14 PM

But I'm neither pro life or pro abortion. It doesn't affect me one way or the other, really. I don't plan on any abortions in my future. Frankly, I'm not sure my swimmers even still work, which is wonderful to me. I'd probably check out one way or another a little early if I found out I was an impending parent.

But gas prices affect me and most others more so than abortion laws.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would think everything you said is true of you.

Jun 24, 2022, 2:23 PM

But, not everybody else.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

energy prices drive the cost of everything.

Jun 24, 2022, 2:39 PM

From groceries to going to work. Everyone eats, and most people go to work.

Abortion laws only affect those who are pregnant, or want to no longer be pregnant.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Abortion laws only affect those who are pregnant, or want

Jun 24, 2022, 2:44 PM

to no longer be pregnant." Ugh!

That is not a statement that I would have expected from you. You are usually more thoughtful than that.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Do they affect you differently?***

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg2005_majors_champ.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-xtiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well that makes no sense....

Jun 24, 2022, 12:52 PM [ in reply to People underestimated the extremism of the Republican Party. ]

you're suggesting that the democrats didn't realize the GOP was largely pro-life. Considering it was dang-near a litmus test for any candidate for office or the bench, that's hard to believe.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They didn't think the Supreme Court would actually overturn

Jun 24, 2022, 1:00 PM

Roe v. Wade. It appears that Joe Manchin was quite surprised.

Judging from the comments on this board, it looks like even extremist Republicans are a bit concerned about the blowback and trying to downplay where the states are headed with this issue.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They didn't? What were all of the protests ...

Jun 24, 2022, 1:06 PM

on all of Trump's (and Bush's) appointees about then?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did those protests represent the thinking of all Democrats?

Jun 24, 2022, 1:53 PM

And pro-choice Independents and Republicans for that matter.

Did the Jan 6th attack on the Capitol and the efforts to overturn the election represent the thinking of all Republicans?

Not sure how you make that leap.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well no, but it's not a leap either...

Jun 24, 2022, 2:20 PM

if you don't think abortion protection was an issue for every judge that came up, then we probably don't have much to discuss 'cause we're on different planes here.

Do you really think dem fundraising campaigns haven't played up the GOP desire to overturn Roe v Wade over the past many decades?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is that what I said? "People underestimated the extremism

Jun 24, 2022, 2:38 PM

of the Republican Party. I have a feeling that is about to change."

That means that more people now understand that this was a real threat to happen, not the hysterical rantings of a few protesters. It only became a real possibility when Justice Ginsburg died a year and a half ago. The concurrence of Justice Thomas in this decision with his suggestion that they are coming for contraception, same sex relationships and same sex marriage will probably come as a surprise to many as well.

I would agree with you that they should have seen this coming.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The problem is the USSC justices bald faced lied

Jun 24, 2022, 2:13 PM [ in reply to They didn't? What were all of the protests ... ]

when asked about RvW. The previous two that are being discussed flat out said Roe v. Wade is law and they have no intentions of changing it.

When really they were more like

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I like your funny words magic man

Re: The problem is the USSC justices bald faced lied

Jun 24, 2022, 2:19 PM

Video link, please. Not some silly hodge podge of edits. But a link where this was actually said. I have watched a to of Senate hearings and confirmations, and have never once heard a supreme court nominee say how they would rule on a particular issue.

Calling ######## on that

Also, based on the responses here, people think that overturning r v w has made abortion illegal.

13 states already have trigger laws that will ban abortion immediately. Fortunately, they are poor, southern states that are already running huge deficits.

Notice how Florida is not one of them. Good for our economy as lots of reproductive tourism will line this state's coffers.

Not arguing Tbalm. Florida is in fine shape, however second only to TX in holding the least debt.

NY,NJ,CA could take a fiscal lesson or two from FL and TX.

Well good news is in 19+ years those states
