Defensive coordinator name matters to some recruits…

Y’all criticized me other day. For questioning rather or not inside hires could recruit at a high level. Some players commit based on a relationship they build with certain coaches. So I’m hoping if Goodwin is the guy he can have the ability to patch this recruiting class back together. He needs to hit the ground running and rebuild relationships. I just hope Goodwin can help recruit top 10 classes year in and year out.

We'll see what happens. People matter to this program that much is clear. I think the recruits feel that too...being mattered matters to these kids. We're in good hands folks, no matter who Dabo chooses, we've got to buy in if we want the players and recruits to too!

He has been on Saban's staff since 2018. Pretty young guy at 37.
Charles Kelly is the other co-defensive coordinator.

Yes it does.. specially in the world of NIL. these kids are out to make money right now and aren't going to take a chance on some no-name.

100% correct. When you have the opportunity to go out and hire the best DC not named Venables, and you don't even take a look around.....that's arrogance and ignorant. Our Co-DC have a total of 4 years college coaching experience....4. Dabo has turned this into nepotism at its finest

Committing to a coach and not a school/program...

is a common approach among high school recruits.
It's a further example that many of these kids have absolutely no concept what the word commitment actually means.
These are also likely the same kids that you will read about, in the not too distant future, being in the transfer portal.

And with this a given - hiring the best DC is critical to recruiting. We need to think and look outside the box.
