Defense against our O

Jul 22, 2016, 12:23 PM

What do you try to take away playing us? Mike and Deon deep Leggett down the middle Hunter Artavis and Ray Rau with the short routes Trevion with anything in between Gallman up the middle down your throat or DW with the zone or the draw. Idk what you would try to take away the most.

Find a lightning quick nose guard to sweep the ball from Guillermo's hand as he snaps the ball!

That's about the only option.

yac and deep passes. Gallman had 139 yards and it was still a close game down to the wire. They did a good job of keeping Watson's running game in check. He only threw for 199 yards with 2 picks. They limited our deep passing to very little, though Renfrow caught a 32 yard TD. Ray Ray McCloud and Artavis Scott were unable to create anything in the short passing game with 12 of our 21 receptions.

Not sure what they were doing to accomplish what they did, but I seem to recall they got good pressure and their linebackers and secondary run and tackle well.

Of course, we didn't have Mike Williams' deep threat and redzone and third down help, and Cain and Renfrow had not emerged(and Cornell Powell wasn't on campus). If Gallman becomes a solid consistent receiving option out of the backfield to go along with our plethora of field-spreading receiving threats and two-headed rushing monster, our offense will be ### near unstoppable.

I'm giddy.

Louisville has ye top lay our offense at full strength

in 2014 Watson got hurt. In 201 Watson still wasn't himself and was off on a lot of his passes. Also, like you stated we'd lose Williams and didn't have anyone else prepared to step in his shoes as our go to WR. Couple that with UL's very good secondary and it lead to picks. As it stands I still expect us to run at will against their front 7 as they'll have to play 2 deep safeties now that Williams and Cain are back fully ready to go. Playing one on one against either of those guys is a catch, TD or PI waiting to happen.

You have to control the LOS to beat us

There are really no teams on our schedule last year that completely shut us down. Like you said you have to focus on limiting Watson or limiting our run game. In the games that Watson struggled we were able to pound the rock and vise versa.

If I was a DC I'd focus on getting to Watson, especially if my secondary wasn't great. I'd bring elaborate blitzes and play a feast or famine type of attack. I wouldn't allow Watson and Clemson to methodically move down the field and wear out my D. I'd force either mistakes or give up TDs and pray that I get the former rather than the later.
